Topic: Beginner-mediocre guitarist needs help Posted: September 06 2010 at 15:28 |
I've been playing guitar for about a year now, can play songs at the difficulty of "Stairway to Heaven" " Blackbird" and "Dust in the Wind", though lately, my "learning" has been stagnating.
I can't find any songs, methods or anything to learn. I've lately feeling like trying out learning the intro to "Farewell to Kings", small bit by bit.
My music taste is obviously Prog Rock, and Classic Rock, from the softer to the harder.
So I'm asking.. How should I go now?

I started out playing an old beat up acoustic guitar. Rather than trying to songs explicitly, I started out playing along to stuff and not trying to duplicate the guitar parts parts, but instinctively play a melody line from any instrument or singer I was listening to. Trying to reproduce music in a structured fashion is one thing. Trying to find you own voice is better and more fun as well. Sitting down in silence and just messing around is useful, too.
