Topic: Best album cover of 2009 part 2/2 Posted: February 08 2010 at 15:16 |
The Italian Progawards site recently announced it's final nominations for various album of the year awards. The second half of the nominations for Best Cover Art 2009 are listed above, I've added in the cover art below here too. Any points of view in here for these nominees? SOPHYA BACCINI - Aradìa Spleen Arcana - The Field Where She Died The Source - Prickly Pear VV.AA "Purgatorio: The Divine Comedy Part II" Consider The Source "Are You Watching Closely?" Transatlantic "The Whirlwind" Counter World Experience - Metronomicon Shadow Gallery - Digital Ghosts Ex-Vagus - Dream Object 5 L'Herba D'Hameli - Inversa Visual Of The I - Balance Instars SIDDHARTA "Trip To Innerself" Moonrise "Soul's Inner Pendulum" Latte e Miele - Marco Polo, sogni e viaggi Altare Thotemico - Altare Thotemico Gianluca Grasso "Vortex" Arpia - Racconto d'Inverno Jupiter Society "Terraform" Ubi Maior - Senza Tempo Satellite "Nostalgia"

It's an interesting coincidence that I've just finished reviewing Metronomicon, and now I find it mentioned here ... Anyway, my favourite of these is Arpia's Racconto d'Inverno - a stunning cover for an equally stunning album - with Metronomicon as a runner-up.

There's not a single album of this poll I have ever listened to so far (except I have Transatlantic and Jupiter Society on my back list), but I think Gianluca Grasso "Vortex" looks the nicest.

None of these is my kind of cover.
My favourite would be Digital Ghosts, but then again....

Ubi Major followed by Siddhartha...UM's album cover makes me think of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The Italian Progawards are a bunch of crap if these are the best covers they've found this year. Where is Crack the Skye? That's a fantastic cover!
Out of this list I voted Spleen Arcana.

The Siddharta one is pretty neat, but the Counter World Experience seems so perfectly balanced and constructed. Sure, it's pretty simple, but I like the feel of it. Never heard of them, though.

I've only heard the Transatlantic one from this list, which is pretty crazy! From this list, I vote for vortex. Other albums that have had album art I enjoyed a lot include Nemo - Barbares, Astra - The Weirding (would have got my vote if it was here), Mono - Hymn to the Immortal Wind, Wobbler - Afterglow, Beardfish - Destined Solitaire, and Deluge Grander - The Form of the Good.

Wow, finally an album cover I like! Vote for SIDDHARTA "Trip To Innerself".
Is it me or are the album covers getting waaay too pretensious? Where are those simple and clever ones I enjoy so much?

Metronomican, the rest of them are pretty bog standard, lifeless covers.
