As I said in my review, this year has been slow, the so expected Porcupine Tree album, was a disappointment for me, seems that the guys have set the bar too high with their previous albums, so I didn't expected something outstanding as in previous years.
But I bought The Thomas Tracks by 5BridgeS, a new band from the Netherlands.what a surprise. It's clear they respect the 70's (they claim to be a bridge between the 70's and the 2st Century), the vocalist Piet Roelofsen sounds like Peter Gabriel, but more a natural range thing that a copy, the keyboardoist Luke dAracena, has a peculiar style that I would compare with Wakeman, Emerson, Banks and mostly Rob Reed from Magenta. The guitarist Enzo Gallo combines the delicacy of Steve Hackett with the fury of Chris Fry from Magenta, and the solid rhythm section ( Rob Van der Linden on Drums and Martin Thoolen in the bass) provide the security of a solid support. The album is a based in the novel 'De Handelingen Van Thomas" by ...........Rob Van Der Linden (Drummer and novelist, strange combination), with strong music that resembles of the 70's but with a touch of modernity. But the most impressive fact is that there's no review bellow 4 stars (41% five and 41% four stars), and you know I don't trust in ratings without reviews (even when the lowest is 3 stars). This band must be checked, they not only promise a lot , but are a reality already. If there's not a surprise in the last months of the year, my vote for the best album of 2009 is decided. I found it quite good. I believe I am responsible for one of the four star reviews. Several very memorable passages.

In my top as well, at least for now, right next to Wobbler (Nemo on #1 spot). Other than these two, I must sadly say there's no other Symphonic album in sight.
P.S.: I would be responsible for a four stars review as well, should I review it. Edited by Ricochet - October 06 2009 at 15:13 |

That final piece seems to be my favorite, I think. "Thomas beware..."

By the way (sorry to keep bombarding this thread), but I found the subject matter rather intriguing, especially from a historical / biblical perspective, even if some of the lyrics are pretty obscure (there's a lot of "dialogue" involved that's hard to separate without the words in front of you).

That's okay, Ivan. I don't think I've posted one thread in the prog music lounge that didn't get moved

Doesn't matter as long people know about this excellent band.
Call them retro Prog or whatever, the music is OUTSTANDING. Iván
