Why is Ubuntu stupid?

So a few months ago I installed Ubuntu on my laptop which was running Vista. I did this in order to dual-boot. While I liked Ubuntu just fine, I gave it too much space (25GB) from my already meager harddrive of ~140 GB. I finally got to the point where I need that space on the Windows partition. I got this program to repartition the HDD and that worked just fine. It deleted the Linux partition and gave all that space to Windows. Then I tried to start my computer and I get a message saying there's "Error 22" in the GRUB stage 1.5. Of course I turn to the marvelous internet to find out what's wrong. Apparently when I  installed Ubuntu, Linux took the Windows boot command and moved it into the Linux partition. So when I deleted that partition I also deleted the Windows boot command. So, my question is: Why is Ubuntu stupid? Why would it move the command for partition A into partition B? While this is 99% venting, I'd still like to know why it did what it did.

I think the main problem is that the Windows boot loader won't recognize non FAT/NTFS partitions so Ubuntu installs GRUB on the MBR so that you can dual-boot.  Theoretically GRUB should not have had an error, although you might have had to alter menu.lst to make it work right - it should be able to work even if the only bootable partition it sees is Windows.

The alternative to deleting the parrtition and re-partitioning would have been to reformat the partition as NTFS, although I can see why one might not care for that.

It is a bit stupid, but the problem is I can't think of any good solutions.  I know for those who have a curiosity about Ubuntu and don't want to committ HD, there's a way to basically run Ubuntu as an app from Windows, virtualizing it if you will.  When you want to get rid of Ubuntu you just delete the virtual file/folder.

It eventually all worked out. I couldn't find my Vista disc so I had to borrow a friend's to repair Windows. It didn't take too long but it was a hassle.
