Topic: A Progrock Newbie from the Philippine Islands. Posted: January 23 2009 at 11:59 |
I am Jay Estonio, I am an aspiring musician from the Philippines.. I am new in exploring the vast lands of progressive rock music.
For the knowledge of everyone progressive rock music is not really prolific here in this country. You can tell it by my age, which is 21. At this age, I should be at least knowledgable about progrock, but unfortunately that is not the case.
The really first progressive rock band I have ever listened to was Dream Theater. Then I became acquainted with the music of Symphony X. One day, in my search for a haven of progrock aficionados, I've stumbled upon progarchives.com. I am so glad I found this website. There are great reviews and a huge database of reliable information about progressive rock bands of all types, old and new.
Now, I am currently exploring the music of:
Gentle Giant Yes Spock's Beard Parallel Mind Ozric Tentacles Porcupine Tree Tool
I have a lot of catching up to do. Again thanks to the staff and admin of this website and forum. More power! Cheers!

Welcome!
The archives can be a bit overwhelming, filtering through 4000 bands (trying to get a sense of the genres/bands) isn't what I'd call a walk in the park, but you're off to a good start!

Welcome!! I used to have a Philippine friend, which I never saw again, so I'm glad to have one here who's getting into Prog!
If you like Spock's Beard, make sure to check out Transatlantic(with Neal Morse, Mike Portnoy!, Roine Stolt of The Flower Kings, and Marillion's bass player), The Flower Kings, The Tangent, and some many others of the like!
Good luck with your entry and search to the UNLIMITED world of Prog!

It seems like you have a good diverse base on which to spread out from. Welcome to our humble forums.

Welcome, Jay!
I'm from the same Asia as you.
BTW, can you let me know about Philippine bands more?
I could find FUSEBOXX here but I don't know...

Hey nice to virtually meet you DamoXt7924. Try checking out Eternal Now. I've just discovered from them last Dec. 2008 and I was blown away. I never expected a band like them coming out from this country. Local progressive rock music here is very scarce. If you want to hear some, please visit http://www.myspace.com/eternalnowofficial My favorite from them is Paths of Mirrors II. Thanks for the welcome by the way. Cheers!
