I'm from the Chicagoland area and I play guitar, drums, as well as some bass. Presently in an extreme/tech prog metal band. Main interests are writing music and collecting classic/prog/etc LP's from the 60's, 70's, and 80's.

As far as old school prog favs: Camel, Crimson, Yes, Popol Vuh, Ash Ra Tempel, Mahavishnu Orch, Rush, Captain Beyond, Marillion and a whole lot more.

For newer prog: Most anything Steven Wilson is a part of---No-man, Porcupine tree, Blackfield, etc. Bands like Enslaved, Cynic, Ulver, Tenhi, Opeth, Paatos, Tool, Ihsahn, Negura Bunget, and so on.

Love the site, and am looking forward to refining my tastes in the prog realm.

Regards

Hey Shane, I met you at Elmhurst. I was one of John's friends, the short guy with the Opeth tattoo. Nice to see you on prog archives!

Honestly it's nothing short of a holy trinity of a prog jerk-off fest.

^^ Hmm I was under the impression the phrase "ha det fint" was Norwegian, but perhaps it is a phrase used in Denmark as well?

Tak nemlig den velkommen. (I hope my Danish isn't too bad)

Well in Danish it would be Hav det fint, but it was very close and means the same thing. Norwegian, Swedish and Danish are closely related languages.

Just wondering, your username is Altair. Does indicate that you are a video game geek such as I, and you named yourself after the protagonist in Assassin's Creed?

Thanks for the welcome, and yes, you are correct about my being a fellow video game geek. Cool I thought AC was quite an interesting game to say the least.

What are some of your fav games? I was obsessed with the later Final Fantasy games for a long time, as well as the music of Nobuo Uematsu, the games' main composer.
