Hi,

I can still put on YETI ... and there are not many guitarists out there that can make it sound like spaceships from outer space landing! Or some ultra sonic visual of some sort, reminiscent of the cover of that album ...

I don't care for the term Krautrock ... but I put together a fun sequence for you all ...

Must be hear loud ... and loud ... this is a music set ...

Scorpions - Fly to the Rainbow
Amon Duul 2 - Apocalyptic Bore
Guru Guru - Der Elektrolurch
Can - Mother Sky
Grobschnitt - Solar Music Live (in its entirety)
Faust - Tapes
Agitation Free - Malesch (anything)
Cozmic Couriers - Planeten Sit-In
Roedelius - Grosses Wasser
...
and then after a drink (to clear up the fog) ...
Holger Czukay - On the Way to the Peak of the Normal
Eroc - Norderland
18 karat Gold - (any cut will do)
Zelig - Knock on Heaven's Door
Eberhard Schoenner - Trance Formation (for you gospel freaks!)
Guru Guru - LSD March
Kraan - Any early long cut live
Utopia - Nazi Goring
Klaus Schulze - Sebastian en traum
...
and then after a shower (to clear up the vibes)
Popol Vuh - In den Garten Pharaos
Klaus Schulze - Mirage
Tangerine Dream - Stratosfear
Ash Ra Tempel - Nightdust
...
and then ... for a good night cap ...
Amon Duul 2 - Wie der Wind Am Ende Einer Strasse
Amon Duul 2 - Yeti

Pleasant dreams ... and yes .. I have all this and much more ... can not EVER get enough of it.
(and that's the only Scorpions album I ever kept ... the rest was crap!)

Quote Why is it so many people are into only the first few Amon Duul II albums. Hijack and Made In Germany is where they really proved their ability as musicians, arrangers and composers. Made In Germany is a bloody masterpiece both musically and conceptually.

I always thought that ... a song does not a "composer" make. I  still like the band, and while I can appreciate NADA MOONSHINE ... you know what my biggest criticism is? .... for a band that was so fantastic in experimentation ... the only thing they could do now was ... a nice song or two? They couldn't even "trip" anymore?

HIJACK ... is, a massively great album ... it's just a shame that Atlantic at that time decided to give all the money to a big dick on a stage and another over sized ego, and killed over 100 artists on their label conglomerate ... most of these artists were European bands that today we talk about with so much affection. And because the album had no backing, or support ... it got trashed by anyone that heard it on any rock media.

I just don't know that many American radio stations can appreciate the "challenge" that Amon Duul was presenting in "Explode Like a Star" ... or the bigger finger to many other things ... "Ge Guadaloop" ... which a lot of people think is a taboo of sorts and putting down "rock'n'roll" ... no kidding ... this happened in Santa Barbara! And at the time, things were not about being "politically correct" as they became 20 years later ... although the feds enjoyed doing target practice on the radio station towers!

Personally, I liked MADE in GERMANY ... but I think that a more focused album, with a few more "jams" instead of songs, would also be enjoyed ... that's like saying that today ... if you saw AD2 ... you would not want to hear YETI played ... you're full of it ... you would love it and cry afterwards!

I always thought ... at one time ... the music did all the talking ... you did not need the lyrics in Soap Shop Rock to enjoy the album ... and all of a sudden, it is lyrics, and sometimes trivial and not important ... and while I appreciated a number of fantastic songs ... I felt sad ... I missed the vast expanse and explosion of sound that WOLF CITY had ... or the unbelievable power and strength of Mozambique after Apocalyptic Bore ... still the 2 most important AD2 songs of all ... one a massive finger to people that got stuck in drugs and couldn't even talk to you anymore ... and the other ... guess what ... even Mozambique got its independence 2 months later. (This was the reason I put Scorpions song Fly to the Rainbow on the list on the other thread _ so you can see a nice song that basically tells everyone ... get ripped and stoned!)

But, out of curiosity ... why does a song fit into "composition" and an experimentation does not?

So much for the symphonys we listen to all the time in classical music ... to me YETI is one of those symphonies ... stop taking that credit away from the artist ... hehe

Thx

I wasn`t taking any credit away from anyone.Quite honestly I don`t know what you mean by that. And I never said experimenting couldn`t be composing because that`s how a lot of songs became songs. I just said they really started to prove themselves on the Carnival In Babylon album onwards despite some dissatisfied fans and critics.

I think the first album they really started taking flak for goiong commercial was Carnival In Babylon which in my opinion is one of their best. Don`t know what you`re talking about ATCO ( you`re refering to ATCO? ) killing 100 artists. When Amon Duul II was on Liberty they were virtually unknown in North America. With the switch in management and musical approach the North American market sat up and took notice.
I like the incessant jamming of the early Kosmische bands as much as the next guy but I don`t think even Guru Guru could have got away with that sort of thing for long. I mean, c`mon guys give us some songs as well. And that`s what a lot of these bands did. The ones that wanted to stay in freakoutland went by the wayside.

Fool's Garden : Though not strictly progressive...if you like the Beatles you will love them. Great melodies, harmonies, songwriting and arranging skills. Huge in Germany & some other parts of Europe. Their hit 'Lemon Tree' is probably one of their weakest tunes but commercial. Check out their other stuff.
