There was something special about putting the headphones on and looking at the the beautiful artwork and the lyrics from an LP. 
 
CD's have its crystal clear sound, at least when they have been mastered correctly.
 
MP3's have never appealled to me.  CD's are small enough for the car, unlike when cassettes were essential where you made the sound quality sacrifice for portability. 
 
Missing is Laserdisc's for the "what the hell is that" response for the uninitiated LOL

LP's by far (for their wamer and BETTER sound quaity provided you have high-end audio gear). I grew up on vinyl. Just constently glaring upon album artwork & reading liner notes while spinning a record was the sh*t for me. A lot of LP's especially from the 1970's came with a gatefold cover with killer artwork to give you a visualization of what you're listening to. Led Zeppelin IV, Crimson's "In The Court..." & the Moodies "On A Threshold of a Dream" where some of the LP's I remember listening to as kid and getting into the artwork while listening to the music as opposed to tossing a cover on a table and walking away. That was part of the experience. Try getting that kind of inspiration from a stupid little CD booklet, just ain't the same.  But for me CD's are sometimes more practical for obvious reasons nowadays.  As a 30-something now glad I grew in a era before the advent of compact discs.
