I can't read minds yet Mike, if you talk about a better system and then add a chart in the next post, we must believe is part of your argument. Iván

I posted the chart because it fits the subject of this thread ... but I never said that my system was better. Do you have to keep making things up? How about saying something about Tori Amos for a change?

In the first two pages of this thread I made 4 or more posts expressing my position, posting all over agaim would be repeating me.
I even talked about the album most menttioned and said what I heard.
Cheers.

By the way, I'm thinking of making my own graph and adding an accent mark to my name. Brián I'll admit I first have to figure out how to do that other than copying the accented a out of yours. Hey, can I borrow your a? Edited by Slartibartfast - June 11 2009 at 19:57 |

In my opinion, adding Tori Amos here would be wrong.
Not horribly wrong, but still wrong. |

I've given up on advocating for this. I think she can give any officially prog keyboardist a run for their money though.
Sarah McLachlan then? Edited by Slartibartfast - August 05 2009 at 13:54 |

I just have to wonder how many of you know that there are oodles of new prog bands which have not been added to the database, and would very much need the exposure that would come with that. Tori Amos,
Carcass, Steve Lukather, Stratovarius... All bands or artists who don't need to be here to get recognition. What about our responsibility to those who - in spite of all the difficulties they encounter - are still recording progressive rock albums (and I am not talking about 'retro-prog' acts)? |

^ Quite right, but therein lies a problem:
We add 20-30 new bands every month, we add 1 well-known artist every 3 or 4 months, and we only add those well-knowns if and only if there is a good Prog reason to do so. That could give a ration of 120:1, yet the ensuing brouhaha would give the impression that these numbers were in someway reversed. It's not the failure to add of newer bands that is the problem, it is giving those bands we do add the exposure to get their albums reviewed, it is bring them to a wide enough "audience" for some of them to make a connection. We could add every Prog band in the Universe, but unless someone opens their band-page and reads the biography, buys the album and then reviews it then the result is the same as if we had not added them. What we need to find is a means of encouraging people to open those band pages, like this one: http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=4129, or this one: http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=4190 or this one: http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=3405 or even this one: http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=4364.
Serendipity occurs when finding an unknown gem whilst looking at the big name attractions and the more popular bands (whether that is Yes, maudlin of the Well ... or Tori Amos). I'm not saying that all Tori Amos or Carcass fans would discover Paul Cusick or Rosa Luxemburg as a result, but I would wager that most Prog fans became fans of the genre through a well-known artist first and then explored deeper.
