Topic: Top 10 Kraut Rock Albums Posted: January 06 2008 at 13:08 |
Hey, I thought it would be cool to see everyone's 10 favorite albums from this subgenre. Seems to be alot of quite dedicated fans of this genre. Go ahead and include bands on that scene that aren't technically in that genre like Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze also!

tough cookie. but let's see what I come up with- in no particular order:
Amon Düül 2 - Tanz der Lemminge Guru Guru - Känguru Can - Tago Mago Ash Ra Tempel - Join Inn Cosmic Jokers - Galactic Supermarket Popol Vuh - In den Gärten Pharaos Annexus Quam - Osmose Embryo - Rocksession (Embryo are actually listed under jazz-rock/fusion, but they might as well be listed under Kraut) Faust - same Kraan - Wintrup
by the way: lately the term "Kraut" seems to be used for all bands of German origin, and a lot of bands have been added under that moniker that have nothing to do with this, although certainly diffuse, categorization at all. "Kraut" refers to a certain style, not to origin of the band

I didn't mention EMBRYO - KRAAN ... because they are not listed under Kraut here ... it's really difficult to define Krautrock!

The first side of Neu! 2 is just as good as the previous and following albums. I actually enjoy the second side, just compared to everything else they've done it's really lackluster.
