Topic: 1001 albums you must hear before you die Posted: June 22 2007 at 14:06 |
So there's a book with this title, and i've found a page which lists all the albums, here: http://www.listsofbests.com/list/3687/compare/jullebulle?page=21 So far, it appears i'm only 8% through, but considering i've heard all of them in the last year or so and half of the second part is riddled with stuff like Destiny's child and notorious b.i.g, i'ts not half bad anyway, if i do say so myself :)

Pretty good list, I would move some things around, but certainly well done.
I've heard 489 out of the 1001 which is....about 49%. I own between 460-470 of them I guess.

I've seen the book of this around; pretty excellent selection, imho. Unlike 'Rolling Stone's endless polls, this one doesn't have an agenda (not blacklisting prog/heavy rock and metal like Rolling Stone tend to) as there is a fine cross-section of genres here.
Mojo Magazine once did a book with a similar, and equally excellent, list to the one here.

Wow. For a list with some much classic prog, I'm surprised there's only one Tull album (so far). I mean, Lamb Lies Down on Broadway? NO ONE in the "real" world cares about that album! No one!
But Gadda's there! DUDE! I think everyone has to hear that album at least once before death.

I lost count but I think I've heard about 120 of them.

I reckon I've heard just over half of the albums on the list, it's good to see some of my favourite albums there.
Strange that Shleep by Robert Wyatt is on the list but I never noticed Rock Bottom or Ruth Is Stranger Than Richard (but Soft Machine Third is there).
To be honest, most of what's left on the list isn't of any interest to me. I will die before I listen to a Simply Red or Jamiroquai album!

Ah man, that album is great. Everyone knows the song, and sure plenty of people have listened to and know the album, but everytime I put that album on it takes over. There is something magical about it. I'll go a while not listening to it and then when I finally hear it again its so fresh and delicious sounding and I always think "damn this is good why don't I listen to it more". Excellent excellent album.

Rock Bottom was on there.
I've heard 77. I have to give the list makers credit for putting on some great choices. For example, giving The White Stripes their own page

I can't take that risk! Every time I hear or see him I want to go out and kill. Anyway, I've got a Stevie Wonder album.

I must have missed Rock Bottom when I had an (admittedly brief) look at the list. Glad it's there!

This must be the day of the Eclectic Pride. (by the way, I've heard only 135 of them)
