I liked Geddy's voice since the early days, but I do have to say I prefer him singing in the lower register. He did go a tad too high at times on albums such as 2112.
I actually think he has improved over the years, so I voted for the '90s +.
This may not be the correct word to use in a rock context, but I think these days Geddy has a very 'pleasant' voice. Distinctive and strong.

After 1981 his voice live went down alot. He can no longer sing the 70's stuff very well live. See 2112 on All the World's a Stage vs. Grace under Pressure DVD.
In Rush's 70's work, his singing is at the top of my list of best vocal performances of all time. Some people say he souds like a girl, just screams or is annoying, but I love his 70's singing more than any other singer.

Hilarious! I agree, although I like his voice on Caress Of Steel and All The World's A Stage, I admit he did sometimes go a tad 'over the top'
His voice probably divides men and women more than any other when it comes to listening to prog.
I have yet to play Rush to a woman (my wife included) and have her say 'what a good voice he's got.'
Usually, the response is, after five mins or less: 'What a noise!'

I agree word by word with iguana!
Maybe except the fact that they have never been my favourite group...despite being amazing songwriters and performers!

His voice is at it's best on Exit.. stage Left IMO. Without screams, but very clean and easy in his high-pitched notes. On A Show of Hands and mainly on Different Stages and onward he has problems with early songs.. So the early 80s' are the best years for him.

I found the abrasive quality of his voice in the 70s to be perfect. The
80s material wouldn't have worked with that voice, but I still enjoy it
more.
