Pretty self-explanatory, does anyone know of a good book? That would be devastating.

I woiuld search for Dag-Erik Asbjornseen's book Cosmic Dreams At Play (Borderline Books) or the Freeman's brother's Crack In The Cosmic Egg (or sumthin to that effect and available thru Ultima Thule), but I think both are more about German 70's groups than the pure Kraurock phenomenon.

However, I know Julian Cope wrote a book about Krautrock recently, but I have a friend who's reading its french translation and is saying it is not really good.

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

The Julian Cope book you refer to must be a reprint or a translation from the English, since Alan Freeman (of Crack in The Cosmic Egg fame) tells me he and his brother were fully aware of it before tackling their book. The Freeman's are currently working on a CDROM data base developed from Cosmic Egg but much greatly extended to pull in many more perphirals (here both: other German speaking nations, e.g. Austria and Switzerland, and greatly extending beyond the limits of traditional Krautrock  - e.g. I've been feeding Alan with some names/info of jazz rock artists/bands).

Thre is a new book, that I haven,'t read yet  Gerhard Augustin : Der Pate Des Krautrock (2006) in German, half of the critics are good half bad , mainly for his writing style, apparently good photos.

BTW there is a new 6CD  Krautrock compilation on SPV .

The Julian Cope book was about 10 years ago and is currently out of print. From what I recall the second half of the book, where he recommended 50 essential albums, wasn't too bad, but the first half was the Archdrude's ramblings about the scene in general and largely seemed to consist of his remiscences about acid trips listening to Faust when he was a teenager.
