Also..one thing you have to understand is that no film studios or other companies have their claws in the SW franchise.Lucas owns it all, even 100% of all merchandising because none of the film studios thought the first movie was going to do any good,so they basically let him have it all.

And for this reason Lucas is my hero-- an original and independant thinker, and an entrepreneur in the truest sense.

Anyone care to discuss the power of myth and how it deeply affected Lucas? Ancient fables, King Arthur, Tolkein, all of it.

There is an incredible documentary called Star Wars:Empire of Dreams(it was re-aired on A&E last night,I think),that goes into the power of myth and how it affected his story. There was one book in particular that deeply affected him and the story,I am going to drive myself crazy trying to think about it.It's on the tip of my tongue.

Besides myth he also got alot of inspiration from the old Republic serial movies of the 50's,war movies and westerns. You can clearly see those influences in the film.

Yes I saw it last night for the third time. Not sure but I think the book you mention was Joseph Campbell's 'The Power of Myth', though he wrote many others. Apparantly Lucas was Campbell's best pupil.

That's the one!!!!!

That show is probably the best SW documentary I have seen so far.I missed it last night but have seen it a couple of times before that.

I like when they show the screen tests for the first film.Kurt Russell as Han? William Katt as Luke?

I know...I've even heard that Gary Busey was considered for Solo! Katt wasn't too bad, but Cindy Williams as Leia...    I realize now what a good actor Hamill is (and great voicer). He had been hired to play the oldest son on 'Eight is Enough' but got the part of Luke right before they started the show...and thank God.
