A question for those of us who have been into progressive music for a long time, what are some of the albums that are still your favorites from when you first got into progressive music?? (Younger people are welcome to join in as well!!) As myself.....
Styx- Pieces of Eight..
One of the first albums that got me back into music. Still think it is the best they ever did (even though I do consider them Prog-Lite); They did some good stuff; still like Great White Hope, I'm O.K.,Queen of Spades, Peieces of Eight/Aku Aku....good to get someone into Prog without over-whelming them.
Kansas-Leftoverture
I was already familiar with Wayword Son (this was around '78 by the way). A friend of mine gave me the casette version ehrn he got the LP. Cheyenne Anthem and Miracles out of Nowhere just blem me away. And then theres Magnum Opus... (rock and roll is just howling at the moon).
Yes-Drama
I already had Fragile and loved it but when this album came out in '80, I was hooked. At that time I didn't even know that Jon Anderson was not with them (had the 8-track of Fragile which said nothing about the band members), but they actually played Does It Realy happen on KBPI radio when it came out and this is still one of my favorite albums.
Alan Parsons Project-Pyramid
From the beginning Voyager to Shadows of a Lonely Man, I still love this album. Great flow and that incredible Parson's engineering....what's not to like. Pyramania was one of those songs we jamed in the car (i.e.Wayne's World...)
Pink Floyd-The Wall
what can I say. Like it or not, one of the most influencial rock music recordings ever done.
From this point on, I moved on to other albums that over the years still move me or strike a note of nostalgia, including Marillion's Clutching at Straws, Dream Theaters Images and Words, Saga Generation 13, SB's Snow , even Frost that I am listening to now. So how about you??????
