Thanks everyone, for all your recommendations! I can now prepare a shopping list. (By the way, Wobbler, I quite enjoy Wobbler!)

Great, but I prefer Eruption off Moving Waves.

Also Midnight Mushrumps by Gryphon is brilliant.

I dont know if delirious would be a good word to use, but hypnotic would be Catch 33 or Cassandra Gemini

For an intereresting twist... they have NO ELECTRIC GUITAR!! Michael Dunsford plays acoustic throughout, but its perfect. You don't miss the electric guitar because the song is so well arranged that the piano, orchestra and acoustic guitar, and of course a Rickenbacher bass, more than make up for the loss. Get it, if you like sympho, you won't be disappointed. I'm going to listen to it right now!

Good recommendation! Continuing on the Magma theme, If you like the above mentioned pieces, also check out De Futura (on Üdü Wüdü).

They actually do have electric solo guitar every now and then. Why I pointed out Mother Russia and Ashes are Burning is that they're also available at progarchives iirc. So you don't have to go through a lot of trouble to take a quick peek into the music.

But basically they're closest to what is opera. Ok, we have Nightwish there too, but blegh.
Renaissance goes quite close to classical music, and is very ambitios, that's why it's one of my favourites and I have bought all the albums.

ELP - "Brain Salad Surgery", "Tarkus"
Eloy - "Land of No Body", "The Light From Deep Darkness"
Jethro Tull - "Thick as a Brick"

Eloy's suites are very "delirious"....

2112 by Rush is pretty delirious, and worth checking out if you don't know it yet.
