I don't know about the series, but really? I mean, it was a fun film, but it had a lot, and I mean a lot of clichés.

Aliens, is the dog bollocks. One of the very few sequels that was better than the original.

O RLY? Wink Many, including me, would say that the athmosphere in Alien was way better. Personally, I like the fourth film best, more alien views, psychological horror and ofcourse the Ripley!

If you would have read maani's post, you would have seen the wise adminmaztah's mentioning of this amazing plottwisty film! Wink

As for my additions:

CUBE, it's a B-film, but I wouldn't have known by watching it. Great caged in athmosphere, great acting by the characters, amazing plottwists and suspense throughout the film. I'm going to see the two sequels soon. Also, I'm going to watch Blade Runner (both the director's cut and the theater version) soon, since my dad-in-law can't stop stressing it's the best scifi ever. (it has a great director!)

EDIT: I'm editing this thing as soon as I think of new flicks I forgot. I just have to add the 5th element!

Neither am I a big fan!

good call for those two, but I would add 2001 and its sequel 2010.

In my opinion 2010 has always been much more pleasant movie to watch that 2001! Embarrassed

One of my friend is a huge scifi fan, and 2001 is the best of all movies in his opinion. I loaned him Tarkovsky's "Solaris", which the director claimed to be the antithesis of the movie 2001. I'm sure that Andrei succeeded in this goal, as my friend had stopped watching it after 10 minutes in screaming anger! LOL

Good call - the alien in the lift shaft sequence was hysterical; personally, I always wanted to be the guy in the observation turret. Considering the budget was virtually nil & the whole thing was filmed in someone's garage (or so legend would have it), Dark Star was a great parody of the whole genre.

Another little mentioned film is one of my favorite sci-fi films (aside from the obvious 2001/Blade Runner/Alien etc)... 1972's Silent Running: virtually a solo performance (except for a couple of actually quite cute robots...), but somehow managing to address ecological issues (way before they became trendy) in a thought provoking, yet entertaining & occasionally very funny manner - hugely recommended

I've really been getting into the film Sernity recently, very good.

Serenity is awesome. As is the series.

I also love Stargate SG-1. That movie is awesome. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005) is a masterpeice.

The movie was alright (except that actress for trill Dead) But nothing beats the book.

The SG-1 movie was good, but the series on Sci-fi killed it.

Serenity! Now theres a breath of fresh air! I love Firefly, so well done, great GREAT dialogue. It was at the time the most promising series on television, I honestly have no idea why it didn't take off, it had all it needed to appeal to a wide audience.

Now how come no one has mentioned the Wrath of Kahn? Now thats the best Star Trek product ever!

Haha, yeah, the book's are amazing, But the movie is great too. Douglas Adams even worked on some of the screenplay, it's the way he wanted it. for the most part.

Yeah, I do agree the series killed the movie. Movie Daniel Jackson and O'Neil were much better than the series ones.

Firefly is awesome too. And that's about all i got to say about it.
I doubt that, he died about 5 years ago didnt he?

As for Stargate, the series was considrably better than the movie in all respects. (How can anyone say Kurt Rusell was better than Richard Dean AndersonConfused).
Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005

2010 more pleasent than 2001... only if you want a straight A - B - C - END movie instead of one with more suitable rythm and artistic values.

...I forgot to add in the highly-criticised, cult movie, Dune. Though the book is way better than the movie, I still have a fascination for it. I also have enjoyed several times over the very "campy", Starship Troopers. Aside from the blood and gore, it reminds me of the style of writing of Robert Heinlen and the type of sci-fi novels you could expect in the 1950s early 1960's period. Great stuff!

Good movie & great entertainment - among the gore & giant bugs there's a thread of humour that frequently swings you from disgust to hysterics
