OK, they have covered Floyd, Rush, Kansas, Maiden, Metallica etc etc..

When they toured Brazil last year one fan wrote in some forum that he didnīt want to go to a show if they did covers. The guy wanted to hear Dream Theater songs only. Portnoy was furious with the guy and said he should be grateful (or something very close to that effect)

I think it is getting ridiculousAngry

It is a good idea, I guess, because the material written by these groups clearly surpass everything Dream Theater has written.

I think DT should become a full-time cover band and do whole tours of playing songs by groups that do not exist anymore - The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Genesis, etc. They are skilled musicians and they can play any song with ease, so why not.

It's great unless it doesn't affect their own output.

They do what they want. If the cover is bad, just one more bad cover (probably better than hiphop samples and dance remixes). If the cover is good, a good song to DT fans enjoy.

I'd rather them stick to their own music. It doesn't bother me that they do all these covers, though it really isn't necessary to do so many. If I go to one of their shows, one cover is all right, maybe two if they're really good (as long as it isn't Metallica or Maiden), but I'm there to see Dream Theater material.
