I don't know how often this happens, but I just checked my email to find I was charged $250.00 through paypal for a cell phone I never ordered. Obviously, this guy got ahold of my account or something, so I just went and changed my password. I just was wondering if anything like this has happenned to anyone else before, and if not, giving a warning to other Paypal users.... Looks like I won't be using Paypal as much anymore.......... By the way, I went and checked the email and the guy's address is unverified and I can't click the link to his email even ![]() Edited by meurglysIII |

Paypal is really still the safest way to buy on the web IMHO But they do warn you not to even as much as answer to those e-mails warning you there is a problem and you should change your password They will never send such an e-mail and they stress Never Had a buddy who did answer andhe was withdrawn almost 800 Euros, he complained and got his money back from PayPal , so you might want to do the same I also received plenty of these e-mails (all alarming and warning me of tampering with my pass words and stuff like that) and never answered them and they finally stopped after a few months |

PayPal can be scumbags though. So my friend opened an Ebay account and a Paypal account... bought a couple of things.... stopped using Ebay for ages... next thing he knows PayPal kept ringing him up demanding £80. But every time my friend asked why they wouldn't say. They then started the whole court threats and stuff... I dunno if he's paid them or not... don't think he did... Oh well. |

I'm afraid that you might be in serious trouble - it seems like that was a fake email. It's called "phishing" ... when you open the link and enter the password, you are effectively sending the password to a hacker which then logs into your account, changes the password and email address (so you can't login anymore) and then transfers money. You should open www.paypal.com in a new browser window and try to login and change your password. If you can't login, you should contact paypal and tell them that your account is being abused - you should also send the original email with the fake link. Edited by MikeEnRegalia |

Thanks Mike. After receiving that email I instantly changed my password, out of fear of someone tampering with my account.

This is exactly the point!! PAYPAL warns you before you join, they will never send that kind of mail, you must leave them e-mails dead!!! Answering them is proving their baiting works |

Well regardless, I always feel a bit uncomfortable when using PayPal, unfortunately I guess it really is the easiest way to do it though. (And so far I haven't had any problems).
