 I COULDN"T BELIEVE IT!

there i was reading the weekend paper and looking through the music reviews and lo and behold ... they actually had a "Progressive Rock" review. I was shocked initially. In all my time of reading this paper i'd never seen that! I was actually dumbfounded to see something of Prog being reviewed other than on a forum like this. So i alerted all nearby that i'm not the only one who knows what it is. My wife just rolled her eyes

they were reviewing the new TMV live album. haven't heard it myself.

watch out, i think prog has a foothold now ...

if left is wrong i don't wanna be right...

I bet you more people consider them indie/emo than do prog, and that's why they're getting a review.  The Mars Volta are more mainstream than most progressive stuff.

By mainstream I mean in their status, not necessarily in their sound.

It's good you make the distinction of status, not sound. I completely agree.

Lucky for us progressive-rock fans a magazine has exposed the name progressive rock. You know there's some kid out there now googling "prog rock", perhaps this website will come up. The kids who consider Mars Volta emo/indie are just stupid and dreaming, I guess we can't change that right now.

It's great that the Mars Volta gets reviewed so much because many critics call them influenced by bands like Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd, and King Crimson. I personally would like to see some change in the music industry, even if prog-rock never has the spotlight again. Where is the talent?
