a young three-piece band from Liverpool whose Tori Amos/Elizabeth Heaton-like vocalist Lynsey Ward has appeared on albums by LIFESIGNS, KITE PARADE, CALIGULA'S HORSE, and BENJAMIN CROFT besides leading a vocal trio for hire that has contributed to numerous artists' songs (ESPERA).

Their songs and albums can be found on both Bandcamp and YouTube (with some great videos--try "Stitch" or "Turntail" to start. Their music to me feels like PA bands DREADNOUGHT, SOUL ENEMA/SCARDUST, ORPHANED LAND, KARNIVOOL, and even LEPROUS.

Also, this interview from 2025 with Steve O'G is amazingly insightful. Prog is her birthright, metal is her current preference:

I love this band to bits, and probably the only reason I haven't suggested them myself is that they've only released EPs and singles thus far, though of course that's no reason whatsoever that they shouldn't be included here.

I've never personally considered them as a progressive metal act though, and they've been compared in reviews by on line prog sites to bands and artists such as Lunatic Soul, Gazpacho, Einar Solberg and White Moth Black Butterfly.

Well, White Moth Black Butterfly aren't on PA as yet (they ought to be though imho Embarrassed) but the others are all in Crossover.

Exploring Birdsong don't use any guitars in their music, relying on a piano/synth/bass/drums combination which does indeed result in quite a dense, layered sound at times, but is it really a 'metallic' sound?

Whilst the core of the band is just a three-piece, the most recent EP 'Dancing in the Face of Danger' (2023) also has Liverpool based musician/producer Tee Soulful contributing on programmed drums, Elaine Ambridge on violins & viola and Luke Moore on cello.

A more expansive biography would be good if you could manage it, but if not then I'll throw something together myself when the time comes.

Let's see what the Prog Metal team think of the suggestion first, but I'm certainly more than willing to throw this to the Crossover Team if the blacksmiths feel it doesn't really fall within their own scope.
