Ha! me too.. but i had a lot of 'art school' student friends and (i think i was their 'non-college' 'Common people' type friend) eventually some appreciation of that 'gothy' rock rubbed off on me, and particularly of late ive revisited quite a bit and found i really enjoy some of it! But yeah, i was the unfashionable (literally, i had no sense of fashion!) guy who went on about Rush and Hawkwind and Early Genesis... but get 'em a bit drunk and they'd admit they had a soft spot for ELP!

Well, credit to you John for being so flexible and keeping an open mind... I'm afraid I seem to lack the ability to go back over old musical ground and positively reappraise musical styles that did little for me, first time around? I must admit, there are artists I used to enjoy but were more on the fringe of my repertoire but have become more central as the years have gone by... Mike Oldfield, Vangelis & Jean Michel Jarre would all be examples of this?

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

This will be a great set of polls. Some great albums in that list and very difficult to choose!

I may end up voting for U2 in every poll, apart from when we reach their "Pop" album.

Only early U2 can be classified as post-punk. By 1983, they quit that sound.
Same with Simple Minds, which i would not consider post-punk, but on their early work (it was so much more), maybe, but not afterwards anymore. Edited by Cristi - November 04 2024 at 04:00 |

That's certainly true, but there's no way I'm dropping U2 from the poll later. The same goes for Simple Minds. U2 and Simple Minds just happen to be my two favourite bands in the poll.

There's no conclusive winner for this first Post-Punk poll, but - with the exception of their unpopular "Pop" album - here's one reason why I Will Follow U2 through to the last poll in the series.

U2's Boy is the only non-prog album in my All Time Top 25!
They would hate me for saying this, but the epic "An Cat Dubh/Into the Heart" is the greatest thing they've ever done.

The Comsat Angels win my vote also here, with Killing Joke, Siouxsie, and the Durutti Column following.
