How am I just now discovering this? It immediately became one of my favorite epics upon first listen. Stunningly beautiful track.

They were sometimes referred to as the Dutch ELP. Rick van der Linden is very much a Keith Emerson clone.

I like all their albums, White Ladies being my favorite.

Birds by Trace was one of the first prog albums I discovered outside of the Big 4/5/6/10, or whatever. The cover art made me notice it, because it's evocative of Moebius (Jean Giraud) and Jean-Claude Mezieres.

I flipped the LP over and saw they were a keyboard trio. I was already an ELP fan, so it was a no-brainer. I was not disappointed. I love it to this day.

I can see how someone would think that after listening to Trace, but not Birds. The latter doesn't sound like something Emerson would compose.

I first discovered it via the Keyboards Triangle album by Ars Nova and Gerard. This serves as a great introduction to keyboard heavy prog. The versions are shorter but no less powerful. I was actually a bit disappointed how weak the original sounded by comparison. I like it but it lacks the out and out bombast of ELP.

Link to the aforementioned album for anyone interested

I can't disagree with you. Birds actually brings Triumvirat's Mediterranean Tales to mind...

Yep.  Amazing album from back in the day.   Think I'll refresh my  memory.

Solid keyboard based symphonic prog rock.
I was lucky enough to find the first two on used original vinyl in a small record store a few years back.
Time to spin them again.
Thumbs Up

Totally agree, 'Birds' is a gem. On that album Van der Linden’s keys just soar. Recently rediscovered it and put it on repeat.

All the proud men turned to dust
And so all things, time will mend
So this song will end"
