This question is for you all, american friends!

I knew from TV (discovery channel ? I don't remember...) that this great song from Blue Oyster Cult's Fire Of Unknown Origin album is about an omonimous actress who, after her death, was described in a book by her daughter as a horrible mother...

Can you tell me something more about this true story? and what about that book?

And what do you think about the BOC' song? what about their 1981 album?

IMO both album and song are beautiful!!

  1. Fire Of Unknown Origin - (words by Patti Smith)
  2. Burnin' For You
  3. Veteran Of The Psychic Wars
  4. Vengeance (The Pact)
  5. Sole Survivor
  6. Joan Crawford
  7. Heavy Metal: The Black And Silver
  8. Don't Turn Your Back
  9. After Dark

I'm not American but I have read this same thing as well. I don't know more than you about this though. When I was younger I used to be some sort of film freak and saw some movies starring this actress. She seemed pretty normal to me.

The song and album are great (Secret Treaties and this are the best BÖC albums). My favourite song from this album is "Vengeance (The Pact)". Nowadays, I rarely listen anything else except prog but a few times a year I spin some BÖC discs among with some other non-prog music.

Of course you can!

Thanks, I didn't remember the book's title.

P.S. I remembered only it was written by Joan Crawford's daughter!

There was a very, very crude sketch about Joan Crawford done by Peter Cook and Dudley Moore in their "Derek & Clive" guise that was well...just very very rude and very crude...as well as being quite funny, if you like that sort of thing.....I won't even begin to describe it......

Sorry I know that adds nothing to your knowledge of Joan Crawford!

I am not really familiar with BOC,but I have read Mommy Dearest and saw the movie based on the book(starring Faye Dunaway as Crawford).Basically the woman was a violently abusive monster and I could never watch her films after that.

GREAT! Thank you for the precious informations!

I didn't know there was a film based on Mommie Dearest!

Did the book and the film have had great success in USA? (I think it did).

Yes they did.It came out in the late 70's and everyone was reading it and it cause quite a stir.I picked up my Mom's copy years later when I didn't have anything to read and I thought the book was absolutely horrifying(by that I don't mean a bad book, but the things that Crawford did to her children)

If you google Mommie Dearest you can find info about the film at IMDB.com
