Looking back at Nektar in the 1970s period, they put out so many great studio albums that my question to pick a favourite one was not easy....in the final analysis, I pick 1975's "Recycled". It shines for me as a well nigh perfect progressive rock opus, and I love everything about it, and I never really tire of it all these decades later. Refreshing and invigorating ever onwards!
             What is your favourite studio Nektar from the seventies?

Why not take a trip back in time for a Journey to the Centre of the Eye with the music of Nektar. They're manna from prog heaven. You're just A Tab in the Ocean away from hearing Sounds Like This as we Remember the Future of prog together. Nektar are a Down to Earth British band based in Germany. Their music is constantly being reinvented rather than Recycled with the release of each new album. Magic is a Child in the wonderful world of prog, which is as magical and mystical as The Man in the Moon.  Money spent on a Nektar album is money well-spent, so you won't be like The Prodigal Son of biblical proverb. The Evolution of Nektar reads like A Book of Days. Take A Spoonful of Time now and travel back nearly half a century in the Time Machine for Nektar's first album. The band had no dreams of Megalomania. They simply wanted to show The Other Side of proggy Space Rock. Smile

Ironically,  Journey to the Centre of the Eye is the only album missing from my Nektar CD collection, out of those albums listed in the poll. Confused

I don't believe I've listened to all of these yet, but of those I have, I like A Tab in the Ocean the best. I know of many livers that wear pants.

Even thoug I love all these albums a lot, Recicled gets my vote, but not by much.

Hi,

I would have selected "Recycled", were it not that some things that they had played in concert had been changed. "Marvelous Moses" was one piece, but the one that (FOR ME!) did not fit the album was the last song ... which likely referred to Roye not being well ... and their next stuff was all material that they had played before though the Live albums (both) made sure that the stuff you heard was not new ... it was just a new evening with the band. Both albums are great ... no doubt about that ... but in many ways, keeping some of the other material back, strictly to place in a new album, as "new material" ... was sad for me.

I don't dislike the current version of Nektar, just like I don't dislike the current version of Gong ... but in my heart, the soul is missing ... and to me ... guess were all of it came from? A "replacement" is not good enough for me, and it kinda hurts ...

Recycled is by far my favorite Nektar album followed by Remember the Future and A Tab in the Ocean.

Remember the Future, with Down to Earth in second place (and no votes so far!). None of the others come close, IMO.

I realize I'm a minority here, but ...Sounds Like This is by far my favorite Nektar album, maybe because they weren't trying so hard to fashion themselves as a Progressive Rock band, but were instead playing like good ol' fashioned, quintessential '70's rockers. The music sounds looser and more authentic to me as a result.

Nice.

I've always liked that album, a lot ... 1) It tells you right away what the band is like LIVE. 2) The cohesiveness in the band is outstanding, and while it would be a stretch to say it is "progressive", I really think ... so what .... it's excellent music and really well played ... 

I think the problem was ... it was so different from the JOURNEY and then TAB ... that I would not be surprised if the record company thought it would confuse fans ... were they a trip band with the lights, or just a really good rock band? The answer went into "trip" a lot more, but I think this also meant a lot more work for Roye to work through ... which I think is what hurt him later.

But if you saw Nektar in those days (got lucky twice) ... SOUNDS is what they really feel like on a stage. A really good rock band!
