The notion is regularly coined here on these forums: "Elevator Prog". It could become a specific sub-genre, maybe. But what is it? Well, this is what it is. No big names here, despite the fact that many of the Big Six - and many others - did some attempts to make EP, so I guess this poll will not garner many votes... Not everything goes through the ceiling regarding quality, but there are some very enjoyable elevator rides in this selection, I think. Listen to this eclectic selection of Elevator Prog and vote for up to three of your preferred tracks. (two tracks were not available on youtube, so I included the bandcamp embeds here) Handwrist - Elevator Malaise (catalogued here as Psychedelic/Space Rock, but more leaning to Jazz Rock/fusion on this track, IMO) Sonic Trip Project - Elevator Seven (Psychedelic/Space Rock) In order of appearance: Møtrik - Space Elevator (Krautrock) The Axis of Perdition - The Elevator Beneath the Valve (Experimental/Post Metal) Grimace Federation - Action Elevator (Jazz Rock/Fusion) Half Past Four - Mood Elevator (Eclectic Prog) Black Unicorn - Interstellar Elevator (Progressive Electronic) Garaj Mahal - Cosmic Elevator (Jazz Rock/Fusion) Sickoaks - Taking The Stairs Instead Of The Elevator (Post Rock/Math rock) Oingo Boingo - Elevator Man (Crossover Prog) Cranium - A Perspective on Elevator Music for the Damned (Tech/Extreme Prog Metal) Video-Adventures - Crazy Elevator ((RIO/Avant-Prog) Kill For Total Peace - Elevator Love (Psychedelic/Space Rock) Virus - Be Elevator (Experimental/Post Metal) The Legendary Pink Dots - The Elevator (Psychedelic/Space Rock) New England - Elevator (Crossover Prog) Handwrist - Elevator Malaise (Psychedelic/Space Rock ?) Sonic Trip Project - Elevator Seven (Psychedelic/Space Rock) Edited by suitkees - February 29 2024 at 07:23 |

I thought this would be another negative thread, but thank God it's not.
I will vote once I have the time for a proper listening.

Hehe... Got you! I know there is more than two hours of listening, if one would like to go through all of these. I didn't know any of these tracks (and knew only of a couple of bands) before compiling this playlist, but stumbled upon a couple of acts that I will explore more. It is very arbitrary, but I think it is a nice way to discover some obscure prog acts! I hope you - all - will enjoy some of these... |

Due to my penchant for lounge-y music, exotica and tropica, Elevator Prog likely would be right up my alley, to be honest. That said, seeing it was Kees, I guessed it would be theme poll with choices based on the word "elevator".
While I have not had the chance to listen fully, of course, because the poll is still quite new, and there are long tracks to boot, these ones are really awesome to me. Møtrik - Space Elevator Grimace Federation - Action Elevator Sickoaks - Taking the Stairs Instead of the Elevator And if it was four, I also would have liked to vote for Black Unicorn - Interstellar Elevator. I don't know many of them, but I like Virus' "Be Elevator" even though I'm not a fan of prog metal, so I voted for it.

This poll has its ups and downs but I like it. My first thought was also the Aerosmith song. LOL It looks like the New England song is the only one that I have previously heard but honestly don't remember it by name. I will put this on my to do list and get back to you with my thoughts.

I know none of the poll options, but I've always found this song to be very uplifting.

Hi,
Paul (and Suitkees) ... I was thinking of recording my washing machine at work and bringing it here. It's better than PF's elevator in WYWH!

These are my choices too, except that as fourth I would mention Handwrist. Those three are nice discoveries to me.
