I have recently fallen in love with the band Dün and their one album Eros. I never liked Magma much, however. What bands should I direct my focus toward for similar music?

Eros was one of my first loves included in Zeuhl, that was before I ever got into Magma. While they sounds quite different, and it may be just because I discovered and fell for all three at the same time, I suggest trying Eskaton's 4 Visions and Picchio dal Pozzo's self-titled. Also Zao's Osiris, Weidorje, and Potemkine....

Unfortunately Dun is as good as it gets. There is NOTHING even close. I do love Magma but Dun is on a whole other level. It's a one of a kind treasure and although there are plenty of great zeuhl albums, nobody did it like Dun.

Fantastic album! I just listened to it a couple of days ago.

There are other Zeuhl bands besides Magma, some of them similar to Dun.  I'll second Eskaton, 4 Visions, also a great band/album (its even higher-rated here on PA than Eros).

Eskaton to my ears is a Magma clone. Dun was a true original and exhibited a technical prowess above most zeuhl bands. The mix of zeuhl with jazz fusion and avant-prog was magical.

Most zeuhl bands are good.

Faves other than Dun include Magma, Weidorje, Shub-Niggurath, Ikarus, Archaia, Xalph, Rhun, Zwoyld

While Eskaton has strong similarities to Magma, to me it offers something beautiful and unique enough. It's much more than just a clone methinks. Dun does not sound the same as either, but I still think that Eskaton might well appeal to someone in Eros even if they are not, or not yet, into Magma (with Magma I like the debut the most). One I should have mentioned before and sprang to mind not long after posting is Vortex. I think both their albums could have much appeal to someone into Eros.

And for a more modern one, try Guapo at some time with Five Suns.

^ clone might be too strong. They are too close to the source for my liking. I like both Eskaton and Eider Stellaire but i just prefer the zeuhl bands that really let loose and fly their freak flags! Love Guapo!

The first band that comes to mind when I think about that style of Zeuhl is Corima. Their first album isn't my cup of tea, but the other two, Quetzalcoatl and Amaterasu (especially), in my opinion, are albums that cannot be missing from a zeuhl collection. I recommend you to listen to Amaterasu first.

c'è ancora tempo per il giorno
quando gli occhi si imbevono di pianto,
i miei occhi... di pianto.

I agree with all of your suggestions, but Elixisirs is the Guapo-album I'd reccoment for someone looking for something like Eros. Five suns should be heard by everyone regardless though.

Potemkine is great too. My favorite of theirs is Triton

Now the sophisticated complexity of Dün's only album also make me think you should check out albums I love such as Univers Zero's debut (sometimes titled 1313) - and side one of Henry Cow's Unrest. Yes I know it's weird to reccomend just an album side, but I think it will make sense once you hear it. I think the somewhat unpopular Soft Machine Fourth is a let down for many who loves them up to that point. But the main reason for that is because all the charming whimsy and fun is gone. It comes across as intellectual, serious and cold. Which is true I guess, but I sure don't mind. It tickles my brain in similar ways that Dün does.

-Now I love so much of this kind of lightly Zeulish Jazz Rock. For further investigation I'd also reccomend Error Code 864G check out: Abus Dangereux (Le Quatrieme Mouvement) + Rhesus O & Rahmann (both self-titled)...

Dün - Eros was my first non-Magma zeuhl album. I love the album but admittedly don't hear much of a connection to Magma.

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

^ Nor do I. Dün played shows with Magma. Dün also played shows with Art Zoyd (my trad creme de la creme fave at PA) and Etron Fou Leloublan. I read that Dün almost became a Rock in Opposition alumnus.

^^ You're right about Guapo's Elixirs. By the way, that is one album that I definitely liked on its release but I feel I underrated it. I had found it quite inferior to Black Oni (that was my favourite Guapo) and Five Suns, but when I returned to it I found huge value in it in its own right. I thought of mentioning Rahmann too. Abus Dangereux is a terrific recommendation (as are all of yours).

Good luck to the OP, hope various music here resonates with you whether you find if sufficiently like Eros or not.

Hi.

I heard the three albums and was kinda surprised at their differences. In the end, I could not make up my mind about this band at all, even though it had some nice moments, but the "metal" like one was Ok, but rather tiresome for me. The Eros album was different than the others. But still I could not make up my mind about a decent comment.

Dün only ever released one album and that is Eros - which came out in 1981. It goes hard in it's own way but has no relation to metal. This is the opening track:

There is a Black Metal band named Dun and actually another Black Metal project named Důn (and a rapper goes under the name DUN), but surely you didn't think any of those were the same band as the wondrous Dün?
