^ Most of the folks don't get anything. It is "sad" that we are amongst them. Some folks find some extremely humble (!) characters like the entity you're talking about snob. How "sad". Supermetro, we are the pitiable folks. Sad. Also we interpret his unparalleled rightminded posts and his unmatched good intentions wrongly. Sad. We are hopeless. Sad. BTW, thank you. I'm Shadowyzard, or I used to be.

There are many annoying users on these forums, me included. No need to make a thread out of it. You argue or you don't argue, you feel addressed to or you don't feel addressed to.
Furthermore, that Paul is not getting Robert Wyatt is his problem. It is a much more serious problem that he considers The Quest a masterpiece...
And, I agree that almost every other country's music is better than music from the US of A...
Oh, and just to say it more clearly: I find this a very inappropriate thread.

Who is or is not annoying is a very subjective thing. I don’t find Pedro at all annoying, and I often agree with a lot of what he says. I don’t necessarily agree with the way he says it, but that’s another issue. I think much of the time Pedro is misinterpreted, and people take offence where none was intended. (And remember, the phrase is “to TAKE offence”. In almost every instance where someone is offended, it is is because they have taken offence. It is far rarer that someone sets out to be offensive.)
It’s even more ridiculous to be offended on behalf of someone else, which is something I infer from your post. You are taking offence at what someone has said about someone else, but have they taken offence themselves? (Perhaps they have. I don’t know, because I didn’t follow your links, and have no interest in doing so.)
There are certainly users who I find annoying, but I know not everyone shares my annoyance, because I have seen people compliment them and/or their posts. As Kees says, it is not a hard thing to do, to simply ignore or not engage with those you find annoying. There is no need at all for this thread, and it is not a constructive conversation starter.
This thread should probably be either locked or deleted. It’s not appropriate at all.

I pretty much totally disagree. What you find ridiculous is the ethical approach, and the lack thereof is the progenitor of myriad of problems we face today. As long as one is not personally offended, one remains silent. No sir, sorry. Though I agree that ignoring is better. And a more effective way of "punishment". Oh, you seem to change your opinion about the person of interest here. (See the thread that SuperMetro linked where he thanked me, and what you wrote there.) But I assure you that he hasn't changed in the slightest.

I'm generally more in favour of going for the ball rather than the man. Of course the tone of any forum can always be debated, but is it necessary to pick out individuals?

It does not escape my notice that you are a relatively new poster here (you are free to correct me if I'm mistaken). I tend to find that the most annoying posters here for me personally are the certain longtimers who see themselves as the gatekeepers, constantly correcting or criticizing the newer posters for not adhering to certain mostly "unwritten" maxims.
I experience this as patronizing at best and condescending at worst.
It certainly makes me feel uncomfortable about posting here for fear that I am going to be drawn into some unnecessarily long running dispute as the result of some minor mistake.

Not to attack one of my favorite music genres, but the site is called ProgArchives after all
In all seriousness though, I've learned to just accept the fact that there will always be users like that. I'll still engage with them if they're willing to have a civil and constructive discussion; however, if it starts resorting to any sort of condescending language or holier-than-thou attitude, then I just walk away from the conversation and move to a more positive part of the community.
That's the weird thing about this site, especially as one of the collaborators. There's a much wider generational gap on this site than most other music websites I've been a part of (mostly because of how long progressive rock has been around), so I always have to take that into account when evaluating/adding new artists or moderating activity in the forums.
Anyway, I don't think there should be a need to be uncomfortable about posting. Even if you get into a minor dispute, it can still be resolved pretty quickly - and if the person's particularly stubborn and won't listen to your side, I see that as the cue to leave the discussion altogether.

Unless they feel it necessary to stalk you into acquiescence.

Oh ok, I didn't know it was that kind of situation. Feel free to message me and I'll see what I can do (if that's what is happening now).

Appropriate for locking this thread, exactly as everyone says. I think it's better for us simply to enjoy discussing progressive rock in this forum, not to be irritated.
