2020 was one of the strongest years for prog in a very long time, I think, and this poll just goes to show it. If I were to list 25 albums from 2020 (which I believe is the maximum options a poll can have), not one of these would be in my selection. I do like a number of these, but they simply just wouldn’t feature in my own list.

From this list, I chose Zopp, which I think topped the collaborators Top 20, and again was not among my nominations for 2020.

Honestly, I think you could”d put up 20 Top 20 polls for 2020, and still not scratch the surface of how many great albums were released last year! 🤗

It's interesting that you say this, as last year was generally a disappointment for me. It is astonishing how differently just two people could perceive more or less the same thing. I do, however, like most of the albums included today.

I have to say how surprised I was to enjoy so much of what 2020 had to offer musically. But maybe the pandemic allowed for a more in-depth listening. Depending on your profession, you might have had the opportunity to take the time and really inhabit a greater number of albums than a "usual" year.
But then again, maybe it was just a great year.
Or a bad year, solely depending on your taste.

Sticking to acts featured on PA, Zopp was one of the best thing I've heard these past years. True masterpiece.

Wobbler is trying to sneak right past Zopp on this one! Tongue

I think the events of 2020 definitely played a part in how much I enjoyed the music from the year.

1. As you’ve stated, I had far more time to listen to far more than I have in any other for year for as long as I can remember. A lot of this time I used to review far more albums for TPA than I would otherwise have had time for, and the vast majority were unknown to me.

2. I had less money to spend, so rather than spending it on the bands and albums I was more familiar with, that tended to be more expensive; I spent far more time investigating lesser known artists whose albums were cheaper.

Both of the above points meant I encountered a whole heap of music I probably wouldn’t have otherwise. I suspect if I hadn’t, then I might have thought 2020 wasn’t a great year for music either, because there wasn’t a great deal released from bands and artists I am familiar with compared to other recent years.

That’s from my point of view, but from the musician’s point of view, they also had time on their hand. There were a lot of lockdown releases that were really interesting and enjoyable, which would never have been composed, let alone released, if it were not for the pandemic.

I think 2020 might be recognised as a better year for music than many thought at the time, in retrospect. This is kind of normal, anyway. As great as I found, for example, 2017, 2018 and 2019 at the time, they’ve only become greater as I’ve continued to listen to more from those years.

But then again, it’s all subjective, and there will always be some people for whom 2020 was a disappointing year. And I suspect that, compared to 2017-2019, I might have been one of those, if I’d not had the time and inclination to explore far further than I normally would. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Wobbler but there are a lot of strong albums on that list. I also like the Pendragon , TFK , Pineapple Thief, Deep Purple and Tangent albums. I would like to have seen Isobar - s/t on the list as well plus a couple of high ranking RPI releases. On the debit side I didn't enjoy the Haken album very much!

And as we see, Wobbler [10] has just gone past Zopp, with 1 vote.
No other album seems to pose a challenge to these two.

I have not hear them, so that is why you don't see them.
There is, however, an RPI album in the RAC: Champions of the 2010s+2020 poll, namely 'L'Enigma Della Vita' by Logos (2014). You can go and vote for it, or whichever happens to be your favorite of the 11 albums you will find there.
