Hi Prog Archivers,I have been a prog fan since buying the Lazer's Edge CD reissue of Spring in the early 90s. I have been lurking around Prog Archives for a long time and decided that now was a good time to actually join.
My favourite decade for music is the 70s: prog, punk, dub, post-punk, fusion, funk, spiritual jazz and folk were all happening. Synthesizers and various effects boxes were becoming common and becoming part of lots of music genres. There's something about how records sound from then that I really like and modern productions don't seem to have. Miles, Herbie, P Funk, Can, Zappa, King Crimson, Le Orme, PFM, Joy Division, Fela, Syrinx, Lee Perry, Roy Harper. and Nick Drake are some of my favourites. I am also interested in acid folk, prog, psych from around the world. Japan and Argentina seem to have produced a lot of interesting music that didn't make it to North America. My music collection is all digital and I have files in DSD, FLAC 192 and 96, but to get the more stuff I purchase from Bandcamp, Boomkat and iTunes. I have a pretty huge hard bop and spiritual jazz collection. I am interested in audiophile sound, but much of the music I like is of a low fi nature. I play music using an MPC Live as a MIDI controller and beat maker and I have some analog and digital synthesizers. The music that I make is sort a mix of dub, krautrock and jazz funk. The type of music that I am trying to find is a mix of acoustic folk and synthesizers ( Roy Harper- Stormcock and These Trails self titled). I would like to work with someone who is an acoustic guitarist to explore this neglected genre. |
