Not expecting a high participation since there's only two frogs who actively and intelligently contribute to this forum.

Going with La Bouteille, Gaz Bar Blues et Le Vendeur.

I'm more familiar with films from France than Quebec. I did like the Red Violin very much. A Quebec film not on the list that I adored is Jesus of Montreal.

Hi,

I review foreign films and I can not even recognize almost all of those ... goodness ... time to get the pencil out and mark films to watch.

Denys Arcand's film mentioned above is excellent. But, sadly it won't go far specially in America due to a "moral majority" that can behave as badly as the Vatican!

As far as "favorites", after I start chasing some of these films I may have a better answer, but for me, Jean-Luc Godard and Claude Berri are the best. It's possible that many folks find him too weird and "an enfant terrible", but his anti-cinema stuff is audacious and totally excellent all the time.

Voyons voir. I don't know Quebec cinema as much as I should but I'll go with C.R.A.Z.Y. and also give a vote to Elvis Gratton and Les Boys because they are absolutely hilarious and classics of Quebecois culture. Great picks; I'll have to check out some of these. By the way Xavier Dolan is quickly rising in popularity and I really loved his most recent works. Definitely worth checking out.

I loved Jean de Florette and Manon des Source back in my younger days. Probably a bit mainstream compared to your choices, but over here on this side of the channel I did feel rather sophisticated for a few months amongst my friends! Didn't last!

Saw Jésus de Montréal a long time ago but don't remember much of it, same think with some of Robert Lepage (Le Confessional, La Face cachée de la Lune), enjoyable but my memory is a bit vague about them.

Another Arcard film you should enjoy is 'Les Invasions Barbares'. Highly rec/Un incontournable.

I would not approach these little gems with Godard in mind though, Mosh.

Seen the Brabararian Invasions, liked it. I also like Lepage a lot, and know his work well. Denis Villeneuve is another Quebec-born film director that I've liked a lot since first seeing Maelstrom, and of course he's become a major Hollywood player.

Saw two Dolan movies (Mommy et Laurence Anyways) and almost died of boredom man...but will eventually watch more from him.

I'll be sure to check some of these out.

I can totally understand not liking most of Dolan's films because he seems obsessed with homosexuals and transgenders (not that I'm homophobic or anything but there's a certain cheese factor). Mommy though I consider a masterpiece. I would have voted for it here without hesitation. The fantasy wedding scene at the end with Ludovico Einaudi's music is sublime. By far the greatest scene I've ever scene from a Quebec film and one of my favourite scenes from any movie all countries and eras included. I'm really looking forward to see what he'll do with bigger budgets now that he has been recognized at Cannes.
