Topic: Rarest Albums In Your Collection Posted: March 17 2014 at 14:04 |
Hello! Wanted to see if a lot of people buy more unknown/limited albums, or if they just buy lots of albums by more popular artists. I probably do the second option in general, but I'm just beginning to buy "rarer" albums like Pete Sinfield's "Still" and "Gilgamesh"'s debut, etc.
Anyway, thanks for any feedback

I'd say the rarest I have in my collection are Anglagard's Hybris and Viljans Oga just because of how hard it is to obtain copies in the United States. Both masterpieces, so without a doubt very much worth the effort for anyone considering buying them.

I buy a lot of obscure recordings, about the most rare would be
Helmut Koellen-You Won't See Me The Lee Pickens Group-s/t Jim Rutledge-Hooray For The Good Times Sun Treader-Zin Zin Contraband-Time and Space Il Baricentro-Sconcerto Jail-You Can Help Me Gulliver-s/t Dirty Tricks-Night Man Zarathustra-s/t Frob-s/t Strange Days-Nine Parts To The Wind
those are what come to mind right off, must be others

I've got a super nice copy of the Black Sabbath bootleg LP Killing Yourself To Die,probaly the rarest thing in my collection.
I've also got super nice copy of Black Sabbath Heaven And Hell on vertigo with On Tour Sticker on front cover-I think is a pretty scarce one as well.

I've got a few:
Jolly What -- The Beatles and Frank Ifield On Stage (Vee-jay Records 1964) The Beatles 1962-1966 (red vinyl, Capitol 1973) The Beatles 1967-1970 (blue vinyl, Capitol 1973) The Beatles -- The Beatles (white vinyl, Capitol 1976)
Actually, I haven't looked at the albums I own since about 1990. These are the only ones I can remember off-hand. They've been boxed up...and...perhaps I should check and see what else I've got.

I have an original vinyl copy of the Touch album (1968) that I presume is pretty hard to find nowadays.

yeah, the Bloodrock singer. It is a great album, also featuring Bloodrock lead guitar player Lee Pickens on some songs. Not as heavy as Bloodrock, and with a few almost country rock moments, it still has an infectious groove to it, and the vocals are especially nice. I quite like Bloodrock, and have all of their records.

I assume you mean on original vinyl and not cd reissues....since many of the obscure things have been released over the years on cd and I'm sure many of us have bought them by now.
Some of the more obscure things I have on original vinyl:
Dando Shaft-first 2
Affinity
Indian Summer
Supersister- To The Highest Bidder
Peter Bardens- Vintage 69 on clear vinyl
May Blitz-st
Henry Cow-Leg end
Still- Sinfield
McDonald and Giles-st
Beggars Opera- Waters of Change
Jackson Heights- King Progress
Gravy Train- Staircase To The Day
Aphrodites Child-666
Rare Bird- first 3 lp's
East Of Eden-Mercator projected
Touch
Aorta
Mandrake Memorial-first 3
Renaissance- the first 2 with Keith Relf
I have a decent amount of other obscure and 'rare ones' on cd courtesy of a friend who transferred many from his vinyl to cd for me.

on LP ???? Hybris is darn near impossible to get on vinyl for a reasonable price ....
The other two aren't so bad......
I bought Iron Maiden's The X Factor for next to nothing in the mid-90's in dbl clear vinyl.......worth a packet these days I believe.....
Same goes for early Ash Ra Tempel, Amon Duul etc. pretty much 'pocket change' in the 90's for LP's equals riches these days........

I have 2 copies of Martin Barre's CD release called "A Summer Band" from 1991. Martin only printed 500 CDs for this release...so it is definitely a rare item and very sort after by Tull collectors.
Anybody want one for a good price?!

Got two original Box sets from the 70's
George Harrrison's All things must Pass (1970)
Mike Oldfield Boxed (1976)
Think one of them may be my rarest.
Got Peter Sinfield Still on vinyl. (bought in the early 80's)

By far the rarest item I have is an original copy of Sweetness (b side Something's Coming) by those nice Yes people. It was their first single, and my mum won it somewhere

One of the singles I have has no details on it, I can't recognize the band and it is very progressive stuff, looks pretty rare.
Another thing is when I attended an Orphaned Land acoustic show about ten years ago, every ticket holder received an EP, there were only 500 pressed.
