Hi again, just wondering which of these subgenres you have the most albums in, to see if there are any general trends,etc. If you don't know/can't count because there are too many, just make an educated guess Big smile

Personally, I own more Symphonic Prog albums than any other (about twice as many as the next ones down).

Turns out it's a tie between Experimental/Post and Tech/Extreme with about 125 each, voted for Exp/Post.
Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005

I didn't count but I think it's Eclectic.. Anyway I made a mistake and I voted for Symphonic, which I own a lot of records too so it's ok.

Without actually checking I probably have more from RIO/Avant than anywhere else (Zappa has a lot to do with that). I own almost no Neo or Indo albums.

For what it's worth I've always discerned a clear demarcation on PA between the arguably conservative camp: Symphonic Prog, Heavy Prog, Eclectic Prog, Prog Metal, Jazz Fusion, Neo, RPI

and the more outlier genres:

Canterbury, Zeuhl, RIO/Avant, Kraut, Post/Math, Psychedlic/Space, Progressive Electronic

These are of course very glib and broad generalizations but i do feel that most PA visitors belong to one or the other camps.

Had to make some adjustments based on my own classification and it's probably based on 80% of my collection, top 5 are:-

Avant/RIO - 183
Jazz  Fusion - 73
Folk - 63
Eclectic - 58
Zeuhl - 53

edit:  Winamp can count for me, so that's nice.  Inaccurate labels aside, jazz is the clear leader.  As far as prog goes, RIO/Avant, Folk (including some non-prog, alas), and Exp/Post-Metal are the highest

I'm going to take a guess and say Crossover. I listen to a lot of non-prog bands and I never know which ones are or aren't in Crossover, but a lot of them happen to be there.

Symphonic gets it for me, but not by too terribly big a margin. Having the entire Rush studio discography makes Heavy Prog a solid second, even if it's a touch unbalanced. Wink

Without actually counting all my 3000+ albums, I would say that Symph, Prog-Folk, and J/R Fusion are pretty much equal.  A casual glance through my stacks and memory indicate the Prog-Folk probably has the edge so I am designating that.  My Tull collection is complete and I also have large amounts of Fairport Convention and Horslips, but there are also other artists I have in that category.  For Symph, there is my complete Yes & Genesis, and large Hackett collection.  J/R Fusion includes lots of Weather Report, Al Di Meola, Pat Metheny, and a few RTF among others of course.

Most likely heavy with prog metal as a second. Having all Rush, PT, and TMV albums pushed that number forward, not to mention all the little gems I've sniffed out over the years of being on the team.

I would think Crossover, with symphonic second, neo third, eclectic fourth, with heavy running in at fifth.

I've never broken down my collection by genre or subgenre. Somehow, it seems to be just a huge waste of time when you could be enjoying some great music!
 
But I could say things like:
 
Tangerine Dream 35 CD's
Klaus Schulze 35 CD's
Ozric Tentacles 20 CD's
Peter Hammill/VdGG 45 CD's
Hawkwind 35 CD's
Rush ZERO CD's
Gong and  Family 50 CD's
 
I just love the music!

I can't really afford many albums on a student income, so I tend to download tracks I like. Of those, I guess I've got mainly symphonic and prog metal and a lot of Rush.
