2 more albums, both around the 3.50 rating on PA. Musically, they are very different - Duke having a very symphonic atmosphere, and more towards prog pop than rock; Caress Of Steel being a more blues-based album but bringing in much more adventurous/lengthy songs.

Both are big favourites of mine, and I think they're very underrated, but my vote goes for "Duke" by Genesis. The music on there is really tight, great chemistry between the members, pretty consistent throughout. "Caress" still feels a bit incomplete to me, like they're still looking for their sound, but without a doubt a great listen and so much fun to play along to! Tongue

As always, thanks for any feedback Big smile

Tough call, but Duke.

Despite a couple of low points, I will vote for Duke. COS is a little more patchy in places, although Fountain is one of my favourite Rush tracks.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Duke by far. Caress of Steel is a good album, but I think it's probably one of Rush's lowest points. I consider Duke, however, to be one of Genesis' best, among the ranks of their classic albums

Duke is a classic five star album, that of a band at the height of their powers.

COS is an album by a band who would find greatness later.

Easy choice for me.

Duke is a very good album by a band in decline.
Caress of Steel is a very good album by a band in its youth.

Caress of Steel by a margin.

Duke is far more successful in terms of its musical aspirations and thus gets my vote. On Caress, Rush stepped out of their comfort zone. While I applaud the move, the results were mixed to say the least.

Caress of Steel for me. I think it's an excellent album and they are one of my favorite bands.

The end of side 2 is the only bit of Duke that I really like, plus Turn it on Again, one of their more bearable singles. But its' brilliant compared to everything that came after, I guess. Genesis completely sucked in the 80s.

Caress Of Steel
When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light.
Through the skies, his white horse flies.
To find a land beyond the night.

Duke, easily.

this sounds smart --except maybe more second tier best of the classics.

Caress of Steel is a brave album, they have the motive and means but it clacked the clarity, definition and cohesion you get on 2112. Nearly but not quite there in the larger rock composition.

Fine album, Duke. I'm one of the tiny minority that like Genesis' harder and streamlined sound as they let the marvellous old days go (change returns success?) and ventured into lesser chartered waters (for prog rock bands) but on their own terms.

Honestly I'm quite surprised at the turnout for Duke, given it's pop-soft rock leanings.  It's definitely the last perfect Genesis record in my eyes.
