I've only heard four of these, but not surprisingly if one has followed my past posts, which probably only I have, I vote for Eddie Henderson's Realization. Great album, and one of my very favourites in JRF.

the Seer is unbelievably good, and deserves all the 5* ratings being thrown at it so far

Must accept the shame and confess I haven't even ever heard of those artists, never mind the albums!

I did listen to it after recommendations on here and I thought it was an absolutely bloody awful album.

If I could be bothered to review it, I'd give it 1*, but with only 17 ratings it's such a minor album it's not worth it. I haven't heard any of the rest so no vote from me either.

Even if it was bad, why go to the extreme to 1*, it's that thinking that just baffles me.

Might as well call this Spite Archives seeing every post you make now is just spitting venom at people and then crying over Neo-Prog. Get over it.

I voted for Izvir, the jazz-rock band from ex-Yugoslavia (Republic of Slovenia)

For a recently added band, that's a good showing.  I mean, it was only added a couple of weeks ago, wasn't it? I'm sure had Swans been added earlier it would have considerably more ratings.  I suspect that Seer would have many more had the band been added in 2012 (the year that album came out).  At rateyourmusic The Seer has 229 reviews, and is ranked the number two album of 2012.  At allmusic it has a four-and-half star rating out of 5 stars.  Not a minor album in the general music world, I would say.  I haven't heard it yet.  Of course your rating and review would have a bigger effect on the average at PA since it has only 17 ratings, but not good to rate unless you've given it a number of spins and given it some time to sink in, I think -- especially if its outside your regular listening sphere so you don't have as many compass points when it comes to the style.

I've been lucky in that I've almost never received a recommendation that I didn't like.  I commonly don't pay much heed to recommendations unless they're directed at me personally by people who know my tastes, and usually they have similar tastes -- I mean, I'll try out bits of the music (say on youtube) based on lots of recommendations, but not usually listen to a  whole album unless I feel I have good reason to believe that I will like it already.  Some people I know that I'll never be led wrong-by and in those cases I will get the whole album -- even then it might take a while for the music to fully click (or I might just need to be in the right mood), but it always has clicked.  PAers have never steered me wrong.  I did make the mistake of buying a couple of albums back in 2004 or 2005 based on their reputations here which were not to my tastes, but then those recommendations weren't being aimed at me, so i only had my impulsiveness to blame (had I known the proggiverse better, and knew better in following descriptions, then I wouldn't have made those mistakes.

DREADNAUGHT!
People you really have to listen to those guys! Man they can play!! I tried to promote them several times and I hope it will help to bring more fans. Their name doesn't have anything to do with the music, they sound like a heavy metal band but it's really highly progressive music, mixing so many genres like avant, funk and progressive with tons of groove.
The utube sample won't give you the whole picture but try...

If I am not permitted to express an honets opinion, what has this site become? I would go to 1* because I see nothing progressive whatsoever in the music on The Seer. It was simply unpleasant.

As I now really don't enjoy or see much point in giving such negative reviews, I chose not to review this album.

And if I "spit venom" at people, it is entirely because they have stepped well beyond the boundaries of acceptable demeanour on here.

My comments on neo-prog were sardonic (encouraged by some PMs from other users, I may add).

Never heard of any of those except for Henderson and the thread title is incorrect or misleading at any rate.
