Hola amigos progressivos as I was writing a quote on the
repond of a subject this great topic came to mind!!
What singer’s voice from the 70’s had got better? Worst so bad
that you feel sorry for their ass, or it is still as good.
Here is my list:
Better or it is still as good.
Phil Collins ( AS GOOD)

Peter Gabriel (BETTER)

Geddy Lee ( BETTER)

Roger water ( AS GOOD)

John wetton ( AS GOOD)

John Anderson ( AS GOOD)

Ozzy Osborne ( AS GOOD)

Annie haslam (renaissance) ( AS GOOD)

Daevid Allen (AS GOOD)

Rick Davies (AS GOOD)

Roger Hodgson (supertramp) (AS GOOD

Roger Daltrey ( AS GOOD)

Kerry Minnear (AS GOOD)

Frank zappa ( He really was never a real singer ,but i enyoy
his goofing around stuff . the man was a genius. ...)

BAD   !!!!!
I feel sorry for their asses:

David Gilmour(( the studio’s stuffs he ok, but live stuff he is
really bad!!!)

Steve Walsh (Kansas) ( early Kansas I really enyoy alot
specially the live stuff, but now steve sounds totally different
which made me stop enyoing Kansas. I feel so bad when he
tries to sing Dust in the wind he should not do that to that
beautiful song maybe kansas should invite James LaBrie or
Russell Allen (symphony x) to sing the song .)

Iam Anderson (like David 's studio stuff he is ok, but live's stuff
he sounds tired and old)

Robert plant (he has to retire can somebody tell him that )

Greg lake (the worst from the list. he used to sing like an angel.
now he sings like van morrison or the guys from the beach
boys)

Richard Right (he is too old to be singing another one that has
to stay in retirement)

Steve Howe (he has been a good singer in the 70 he was ok
,but thank God he was never the lead vocalist of YES oh God !!)

Ax Genrich (guru guru) (this guy was really bad thanks God
they were a jam band as well as early FOCUS which is one of
my fav of all time)

Robert Wyatt (poor man he can’t sing at all)

Elton John (this guy is not prog but I love his voice,
but now I feel sorry for his ass.

SHOW ME YOUR LIST

THE END!!!

Geddy Lee ( BETTER) Same - same

Ozzy Osborne ( AS GOOD) Do u even know how many filters his voice is processed through to sound like he does? Needless I say there is NO way you can catch his voice with a dynamic mic.. my grand-ma has more voice than he does and she's 96!

David Gilmour(( the studio’s stuffs he ok, but live stuff he is
really bad!!!) oh but he's so young!

Steve Walsh (Kansas) ( early Kansas I really enyoy alot

Ian Anderson (like David 's studio stuff he is ok, but live's stuff
he sounds tired and old) Mijo te pasaste!

Robert plant (he has to retire can somebody tell him that ) Hm.. I guess you know nothing about vocals...but what does he have to do with prog rock?

Elton John (this guy is not prog but I love his voice,
but now I feel sorry for his ass. He still has a voice and set of amazing fingers, that actually come with a brain - I think..

Jon Anderson - BETTER: powerful yet smooth

Greg Lake - Much, much worse

John Wetton - same, perhaps a little strained

Peter Gabriel - same quality, but different singing style

Phil Collins - who knows? hasn't recorded a decent song in almost 20 years

Given that some of these guys sing in fairly high keys, it's probably natural for them to lose the top end of their range as they get older - Greg Lake certainly has. In Geddy Lee's case this may be an improvement for some people.

Having recently bought Yes' Songs from Tsongas, I'm amazed that Jon Anderson can still hit his top notes without struggling.

I can't really judge many of these singers, as I'm not familiar with their more recent output - but I'd like to have my say on the ones I know better.

The Good:

Phil Collins ( AS GOOD) He was very good when Gabriel left and up to the early '80 - now I just want to forget about what he does!

Geddy Lee ( BETTER) You bet! I saw him last year, and he was just awesome!

Roger water ( AS GOOD) Agree. Not your typical 'good singer', but very expressive.

John wetton ( AS GOOD) Didn't like him that much in the first place.

John Anderson ( AS GOOD) Definitely!

Ozzy Osborne ( AS GOOD) Well... Perhaps you meant Ronnie James Dio? Ozzy is a great character, but a SINGER?

The Bad:

David Gilmour(( the studio’s stuffs he ok, but live stuff he is
really bad!!!) Agree - and I always preferred Waters anyway.

Steve Walsh (Kansas) ( early Kansas I really enyoy alot
specially the live stuff, but now steve sounds totally different
which made me stop enyoing Kansas. I feel so bad when he
tries to sing Dust in the wind he should not do that to that
beautiful song maybe kansas should invite James LaBrie or
Russell Allen (symphony x) to sing the song .) I can't really say anything about modern-day Steve Walsh (who was awesome in his time), but LaBrie.... NOOOOO!

Iam Anderson (like David 's studio stuff he is ok, but live's stuff
he sounds tired and old)  When I saw him two years ago, I found him to be in fine voice, so I would have to disagree.

Robert plant (he has to retire can somebody tell him that ) I don't know about retiring, but he's definitely lost most of his edge.

Greg lake (the worst from the list. he used to sing like an angel.
now he sings like van morrison or the guys from the beach
boys)  Greg is one of my all-time favourites, but his voice has undoubtedly changed - not that I dislike it as it is now, but he's not the one he was before.

Elton John (this guy is not prog but I love his voice,
but now I feel sorry for his ass.  Would have to agree. Loved him in the '70, now... well...let's just say I don't listen to any of his newer stuff.
