I was just wondering if you or Dick could give me some informations on this album. I don't know anything about it, I was just surprised to see such a cast while searching for informations on Billy Cobham's discography. I am fond of all these artists and, like you, I am looking forward to hear some words by the only man who has an exhaustive knowledge of fusion : Dick Heath. |

I know Allan gets pissed about bootlegs. I've read about this on the AH website, but Allan discourages members from discussing bootlegs. so members generally avoid the issue. Looks like an incredible line-up.

Sorry gentlemen I've been a bit slow finding this one.
I confess to having one AH bootleg bought at a UK record fair (and thought it was legit at the time), but haven't bought any since I found Mr Holdsworth is against them. But let's face it, he hadn't helped for two decades until suddenly releasing two live albums in 18 months very recently - and Gary Husband tells me there are others waiting for release! Anyway the boot I bought turned out to be the soundtrack off the Japanese laserdisc release (83?). Ironically the third earlier live release listed comes down to Paul Williams finding a label willing to issue that same soundtrack legit , but apparently with no agreement from the rest of the Holdsworth line-up!!!!! Having long hoped that one of those dream bands of mine McLaughlin/Cobham/Bruce, would materialise, they did and I caught them 7 years later in '79 at the Rainbow. I was agrieved that no label recorded the line-up but as soon as the web grapevine was rattled, I had two offers of them on CD! Was it Goldberg or Sancious playing keys??? More details, contact me privately? BTW DVD boots of AH are floating including the legendary Bruford Rock Goes To College gig and Old Grey Whistle Test show I never knew existed until now. Just read that the Montreaux gig with Billy Cobham and Tony Williams together is about to be released, with some tunes from William's "Joy Of Flying" and a monster drum battle featured!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ronnie Montrose on guitar. Edited by Dick Heath |

One in 3 parts for you guys
a) Did Jack Bruce, Jon Hiseman and Allan Holdsworth give themselves a band names? b) what are their recording demos (approx 30 minutes worth I can gather) usually called? c) what albums did most of those demos eventually appear as tunes? |

Got me on all three Dick. I knew they tried and failed to get signed, though I thought it was Gary Husband, not Jon Hiseman. I was also under the impression that the songs ended up being the first IOU album: IOU. Are the demos available? |

Actually Danbo part one was a genuine question for what I haven't got an answer, I thought somebody out there might know if they did. In part this is due to reading an interview with Jon Hiseman quite some time ago, saying they touted the demos to record companies, without using their own names and got nowhere - hence the assumption they must have had a band name. I have heard what seems a 10th generation copy of what is called the "Sherwood Forest Tapes" which has precursors of tunes that ended up on Road Games and the next Jack Bruce album. Almost unlistenable because of hiss, but there have been some vague promises recently getting me close to a better copy. Williams Holdworth and Bruce's "Wildlife" Stockholm recordings are now doing the round - AH's solo on the first track (this was '75) is frightening. A copy even ended up in the offices of a well known British jazz magazine, and it appeared in their top ten play list for the month as being on a white label ![]() |
