I figured I'd finally formally introduce myself after about a year of lurking around the archives :D

Having the misfortune of being born in '89, I didn't come to know what prog was until roughly two years ago. Neither of my parents were huge music fanatics (though my dad did spin Abacab and Invisible Touch a good bit in the Air Force), and of course prog isn't terribly huge in suburban/rural Atlanta (Mastodon excluded).

Oddly enough, I think my first experience with any "prog" was Coheed & Cambria's third album almost five years ago. I was into them along with my two best friends, one of whom eventually introduced me to Dream Theater. After going through both band's discographies and absorbing all of their music, I needed MORE.

Long story short, I found this handy dandy website, and I've delved into the classics and modern groups, trying on what I like, what doesn't quite suit me, and what I frankly don't get but listen to anyway.

It's been lonely, though. There are only so many symphonic prog/neo-prog/prog metal bands I can endure alone without any guide, and I just honestly feel that companionship can be enough of a motivator to truly delve into music and give it a chance, with the promise of knowing someone out there knows the same joy I do.

Enough prattling from me! I want to know about YOU. What music, prog or not, it doesn't matter, have you recently been taken with? I myself have been enjoying Big Big Train, Koenjihyakkei, and Steve Hackett as of late.

A warm welcome to you!
If you like Dream Theater, you might enjoy Symphony X, Fates Warning, or possibly Mind's Eye...
Just a few suggestions, hope it helps!

Grace and peace,
Cylli
