You've all probably heard the hip-hop song "Hey Ya" on the radio, right? Just today I found something that said it's in 11/4 on a site, and I went back and listened to it (my friend has their Cd) and it is in 11/4! Weird! This is the first odd time signature #1 hit since Money! Hopefully OutKast will do more stuff like this in the future...maybe...

Sorry, I only listen to WDR 3, a German radio channel, which usually broadcasts classical, jazz and ethnic, but definitely no hip-hop.

I would not have expected that. Did Money go #1?

Actually, I believe it's in 4/4, with a 2/4 measure thrown in during the end of each verse, so, essentially, it's 14/4, but that's just like saying a normal song's verse is 16/4, which is pointless because it's just 4 measures of 4/4.

EDIT - I'm listening to the song right not on Rhapsody, and the Verses are - 4/4, 4/4, 4/4, 2/4, 4/4, and 4/4. Whoever said it's in 11 is right, except it'd be 11/2, which is ludicrous. The bass/snare beat clearly defines the downbeats.

A friend of mine has a piano transcription of this song, and I'm almost sure, IIRC, that it's three measures of 4/4 with a 2/4 at the end. Nothing too exciting, as it's just there to help the lyrics flow.

-Marc.

My point is that there is no radio station here that broadcasts prog on a regular basis, not even on an irregular one. The only bearable (and indeed excellent) radio channel we receive here is WDR 3, and there is the slight possibility for the occasional prog tune Mo-Fr between 3 pm and 5 pm in a special program named "Musikpassagen". There is always excellent music in "Musikpassagen", and on WDR 3 as a whole, but only 1% of it is prog at the most (probably 0.05% would be more accurate). The music on all other radio channels is crap though, so if we are not listening to a record from our collection we listen to WDR3. It is an excellent radio station, just with very little prog.

But all other channels are simply unbearable.

They are so prog!

If so...then Kate Bush, Simon & Garfunkel & the Beatles are prog too. Just listen respectively to Egypt, America and Hapiness is a warm gun and I can even mention more examples (which I will not do because that will be a very very long story...)

Right down the line
