Topic: how do you first listen to records? Posted: June 18 2005 at 13:32 |
so.....just curious....
i usually download albums first, then buy the ones i like.....mp3 is in fact kinda stealing but an original record in brazil is way too expansive....expecially imported ones....it's useless to put numbers, 'cos even in us$ its hard for you to have an exact notion of how much is it....but the brazilian folks can confirm....
leave an opinon if you like

I dont always download first, but sometimes I do. It helps make a decision.

I dowload free samples. If there are none, I go to my record store and if they have the CD, I listen to the CD in the store. If they don't have the CD, I listen to the samples at amazon.com. If THEY have none, I see if I can download some on P2P networks.
If I then decide to buy the album, I set up a search on Ebay to see if I can get it at a lower price than on Amazon. If that fails, I buy it at Amazon or my local store, whichever is cheapest.
So I guess none if your alternatives fits for me.

Usually I listen to audio clips via Amazon.com or whatever and see how I like it. Then sometimes I'll download a couple songs off that album (or the whole album) and make a decision. If I like it, I'll buy the album. If not, I'll get rid of those downloaded songs.
Such a strenuous process!

If it's a band whose stuff I've never bought before, I'll download some of their stuff and then buy it if I like it. I refrain from ever listening to every song off an album, though, cause that just spoils it. If it's an artist that I know to be consistently good, then I'll just buy it without downloading. Sometimes I go out of my way not to listen to anything off an album before buying it, so it's much more of a surprise when I do.

I download single mp3s, not the whole album.

I'll research the band/album - starting with this site of course, download some of the MP3s, have a look at some companion sites - DRRP, Prog-nose for example, and if I like, I'll buy the CD. Now more reliant on the Internet as I have pretty much exhausted my local HMV/Virgins titles that I like. Impulse bought Octavarium this morning on the strength of reviews. Not bad on first couple of listens. The beauty of this site is that you hear from a wide cross section of fellow proggers. KUTGW.

artists should not care about making millions and screwing groupies. they need to make a living though.
