What a lovely album perhaps even coldplays best really moody and intelligent pop songs with a very symphonic approach. Really great chill out music and i realy just have to recommend it as it has just so many great melodies.

Agree!!
Really cool album, lots of synth and piano and more guitar-based than their other albums.
This album is bound to be a massive seller, probably the biggest hit album this year.

rubbish band, rubbish album. dull, turgid, uninteresting, rehash of 80s style U2 or Echo and the Bunnymen.
Why all the fuss over a mediocre mainstream band.

Compared to yes or dream theater, yes indeed. Compared to most pop bands not in a milion years. They are the most original pop band i find it nice to relax abit from 25 min prog epic.

They are not original in the least. dull, boring, inane, music with whiny vocals...it's been done a thousand times before.
They sound like U2 for God sake. That is rarely a good thing, IMO.
There are a ton of bands out there for you to kick back and relax to, that are a million times better than Coldplay.

Of course Coldplay is original (IF any band can be called original), but people tend to forget that because tons of bands are copying Coldplay nowadays, since they've sold over 15 million albums. Don't you forget that, spectral.

colplay are as original as the hair on my ar*e.
yep, you're right in saying that a lot of bands are copying coldplay, but that doesn't make them original or good. labels see coldplay selling millions, so they sign up any band that vaguely resembles them in the hope that they too will sell millions.
I don't see their originality. They are just copies of U2, Echo and the Bunnymen etc. A kraftwerk sample here or there won't help them either!
I'm not sure whether you can tell, but I'm not a fan.

I must agree with all those here who dislike Coldplay intensely. For some
reason, many people often compare them to Muse, who I think are
brilliant.

Ah well it is pretty pointless comparing a pop band to a prog band really it can not be compared in any way. I do find HOWEVER that it is a nice variaton playing some pop music after hours of prog music.
And spectral i dont find many simililarities with U2 and coldplay and i think that U2 is far much more guitar based while coldplay is much more symphonic. (Expecially clear on the latest cd wich i doubt you have heard.) And as most pop songs they are 4-5 min songs so expecting something completly new and progresive would be strechin it.
And i do not doubt that you might find similarities with other pop bands i do think you can find similarities on many other bands if you just listen to them hard enough. But coldplay definitly does not just copy other bands they do still contain the classic coldplay sound wich no other band in the world has and they are therefore unique.
But i say again they are not comparable to any prog band in the world, they are a pop band, dont ask of things out of a pop band that would quilify the band to be in some other genre. I think that music does not necerssarly sound completly diffrent or complex or long. You do only need to play a few strings to play a beutiful melody. And that is what its all about.

There is a really solid change from X&Y from A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD. Chris Martin did just use piano on the previous albums and now he uses more synths and keyboards to get a more symphonic effect. And they also made a secret bonus track wich is a more country approach, a track that i have to say sounds like nothing they made before. I think its important that they show that they keep that coldplay sound and make those fantastical beutiful melodies.
They are by far more original than forexample ac/dc and i leave to other bands to be really original.

I know a lot of bands, mostly independent/non-mainstream who did the coldplay sound 5 yrs ago - so in no way are coldplay entirely unique.
I listen to about 40% prog, the other 60% is of a variety of bands and genres. In my opinion, there are bands occupying the same space as coldplay, but they're doing it 10 times better. the difference is, they're not signed to a major label with the marketing and distributing clout, unlike coldplay. so most people will never hear them.
coldplay aren't prog, nor would anyone expect them to be. but comparing them to other "pop" bands out there, they're just no where near as good. it is the norm with this sort of thing, people rarely scratch the surface, they are content to believe the hype and not bothered about finding better bands.
you're right, I don't own their latest album because they are sh1te.

Not a great band.
I agre w Spectral, they try to be a clone of Bono boys.
Like DT or Mars Volta try to make prog.

Well it is pointless discussing with someone that will not thing that a band that sound totaly as the 70s prog bands or the 70s prog bands themselves. The point of prog music is making new stuff and not do like the flower kings...recyceling it

I don't want a band that sound as 70s'.
In fact this week I've bought:
- Magellan - Simphony for a Misantrope; **
- Transatlantic - Bridge across forever; ***
- Porcupine Tree - Deadwing; **
- Derek Sherinian - Inertia. ****
Are those 70s? And You know that Derek Sherinian and Mike Portnoy (Transatlantic) was or are members of... guess?

No, because Coldplay are also copying a watered down version of a sound Radiohead used to occasionally do. They can carry a tune, I'd just rather they didn't carry the same tune for about four minutes at a time.
