well, I don't have to remind you that prog's lyrics are far superior to lyrics from any other genre, and there are a few lines that really confuse me.

In PINK FLOYD's Animals, what is the meaning of "the stone"? "dragged down by the stone" on dogs, or "the weight of the stone" on pigs on the wing.

On get them out by Friday, by GENESIS, whats the meaning of, "land in your hand youll be happy on earth, then invest in the church for your heaven"? I understand the rest of the song, but that line always confused me abit.

also, how is FRANK ZAPPA's "were only in it for the money" a concept album?

Thanks to everyone in advance

In "Dogs" I'd say the 'stone' tands for the burdens of life.

The line from Genesis is sung by "Satin Peter of Rock Development Ltd.". A little anagram on Saint Peter, the rock on whom Christ wanted to build the church. So maybe it is Saint Peter in heaven reminding people to spend their money on other than wordly things (the parable of the camel and the needle's eye comes into my mind here).

When certain people want to get rid of puppies, thhey would put them in a bag witha stone to drown them. Allso during life people refer to a millstone around there necks, dragging them down. Waters was applying these 2 ideas together for the song Dogs which is really about people!
