Hey everybody,

Yes, I'm a newbie. I've been listening to prog for about 1.5 - 2 years, so I've got a LOT to learn. My story is simple and I'm sure there's a lot of people that came to appreciate prog from the same background: I've been a hardcore metalhead, listened to mostly death, black and thrash metal, bands like Obituary, Death, Mayhem, early Therion, Sepultura, etc.

The first band I ever liked though, was Genesis. When I was 10, video for 'I Can't Dance' was getting constant airplay on TV, and I really liked it. I bought the 'We Can't Dance' tape and really liked it (no wonder). Then I got the next Genesis album I've seen, and that was 'Selling England By the Pound'. I listened to it, and of course, I didn't get it AT ALL. Over the years, as my taste in music evolved, I maybe listened to it about 10-12 times and never understood it. Then, one day when I was 22 (I think) it just 'clicked'. Suddenly, I realized the absolute beauty and genius of this album. Since then, I've falled in love with prog and has been getting my hands on anything I can get, and can't wait to get more. My favorite bands:

Genesis
Marillion
Rush
Pink Floyd
Gentle Giant
King Crimson
Camel
Yes
Anglagard
ELO
UK
Van Der Graaf Generator
Riverside

Welcome arhar.

You'll have a great time here, and yes, you will learn a bit along the way, but you are off to a good start.

Greetings, Arhar. Where's Emerson Lake and Palmer? Try their first 5 albums, especially Brain Salad Surgery.

Also, I recommend these post-70s bands:

Cairo

Citizen Cain

Crucible

IQ

IZZ

K2

Little Atlas

Magellan

Suntower

The Watch
