Topic: Best Debut Album of 2009 - 2/2 Posted: February 06 2010 at 17:22 |
The Italian Progawards site recently announced it's final nominations for various album of the year awards. The second half of the nominations for best debut album of 2009 are listed here - any points of view in here for these nominees?

I would've definitely voted for Animals As Leaders, if only they were included in the poll. But in this case, I'll go with Guilt Machine.

Most of the prog albums I like in 2009 are not debuts. My own answer would probably be New Century Classics' album.

Guilt Machine is hardly a "debut", but I guess that's not important.
Spleen Arcana for me, an impressive first abum from this French progger.

Can't vote - a rare occasion where I've never heard any of the albums in the poll.

Guilt Machine isn't really a debut (Arjen has done many other things before this project), so I won't vote for that, even if it's my favorite from the list.
I'm going to go with the Spleen Arcana album. Really good melancholic prog rock (and it's free!!).

Personally I regard Guilt Machine as a true debut - different name is one thing, but a vastly different approach from the Ayreon and Star One productions (GM is a limited band and written for that set-up rather than for an all star ensemble of guest musicians) makes this a different beast - even if the creative machine as such as been long utilized by now ;-)

I cant really regard anything led by Lucasson to be a debute album, they're all just continuations of his musical mind and all in a similar dirrection.
I havnt heard any albums (in full) that have been listed in either poll, nor have I heard many debuts from 09 anyway. But No Made Sense's The Epillanic Choragi is astounding.

Hune is a very great new symphonic prog group from Quebec, they sounds like Harmonium and their debut album : ''De l'autre côté du monde'' is now one of my prefer.

Thanks for thinking of Kinetic Element, Mr. Giant! We need all the support we can come by. It is much, much appreciated. Mike V(the mad organist) Visaggio

Holy sh*t. I don't know any of these. Strange, frightening, and... now my time goes to getting these all.
