Basing these comments only on the videos provided:

Not a bad overall sound, for some reason reminds me of a less dissonant and less heavy version of Anekdoten.

Nice use of dynamics throughout.  A very crucial aspect to good music.

I realize the vocal melodies are complex, but at times your singer is not quite on pitch- sometimes a bit flat, sometimes a bit sharp.  He seems to have potential, so a bit more rehersal could easily fix this.

Not quite sure exactly the sound you are going for, but I think you guys would benefit GREATLY from adding a keyboard player- you could let the instruments handle the melody once and a while and it would add some excellent textures that would enhance the sound greatly (IMO).  Plus, it would free up the guitar a bit to do other things.  I don't think ONLY the singer should handle the lead melody all of the time.  Just a thought...

Overall, lots of potential. with some neat ideas floating about. I say keep going!

hi farris antoon,

Thanks for your in depth thoughts. The videos posted here are not of the highest quality, but it seems easier to get the proggies here to listen if they don't have to leave the site.

If you venture to our myspace page you will hear some better recordings of these songs (and soon others).

I took a listen to your myspace page. I really loved your music, much of it is very epic and almost sounds like the score of a film. Our singer is originally from Jackson, MS. If you are ever in the mountain west, look us up, would love to see or play a show with you.

Cheers,

Thanks for the kind words, I take the film score comment as a great compliment. When I write I actually visualize a certain scene and then sort of score the scene as if it actually were a film, so you pretty much called that one.  And though I probably won't be in the mountain west anytime soon, I'll be sure to look you up if I do!

By the way, I checked out the tunes on myspace- well done.  Some of it has a vibe that reminds me a bit of Riverside, which I like.  As I said before, excellent dynamics.  I still think keys would take it to the next level though...Wink

Not for sure about the snare sound/drum mix... but other than that, I'm digging it! Keep up the great work!

New video for our song: State of Decay. At about the 2:56 mark, the hi-hat overloads our video camera's mic, causing the whole mix to sound tremolo'd. We will have a proper recording up on our myspace in a few weeks, this is just for displaying more of our breadth.

edit: Removed video as there are better takes of this song now at http://www.youtube.com/americanhollow

American Hollow is soon heading back to the studio work on their first album. A demo album should be out soon followed by the real thing.
