i have selected different types of german bands for you to decide which ones you think to be the most interesting. I am very curious for the result, because, in my opinion, there is no favourite.

Hello Pedro,

Nice list, but don't you forgotten a few major bands?

A new one and already a star: RWPL.... great Prog with influences of Pink Floyd, Beatles and India spheres. 4 great albums, try "As God has failed" first and you'll be amazed, a real WishYouWereHere-stylish album.

Anyones Daughter and Ashra Temple are another two, i wish you had added.

Do Tangerine Dream not count? (maybe new-age etc.) I prefer them to any of the bands in the list.
It's only knock and knowall, but I like it...

Two questions:

Where is Tangerine Dream (the best German group)?
Didn't we have this same poll just a while ago?

Tangerine Dream! Of those in the list, I prefer Guru Guru.

P.S: You did quite well in leaving RPWL out of the poll... God, they're awful...
And above all, is punk

My first three favourites are Grobschnitt, Eloy and Popol Vuh perhaps, but its really hard to say. I like much more bands from germany.

Can , AD II , Vuh and Guru in your list for the early 70's.

Grobschnitt had good albums. Jane and Birth Control were really more Hard Rock at first.

content to be a doer

Neu, La Düsseldorf, Kraftwerk, Michael Rother could get filed as a Düsseldorf Style like Canterbury. All these musicians came from Düsseldorf or the region,  played together and were influenced by the industrial "monotone" rhyhtms of this area, with an ironic touch especially for Kraftwerk and Neu. Krupps : Stahlwerksymphonie , another Band from this town is another good example of this industrial music.

What no Orange Peel

Orange Peel

Personnel:
Peter Bischof - Vocals, Percussion
Curt Cress - Drums, Percussion
Leslie Link - Guitar
Heini Mohn - Bass
Ralph Wiltheiß - Organ

Album:
Same (Bellaphon BLPS 19036) 1970
Vinyl reissue Citystudio Media Production CMP 601-1, 2003
CD reissue Citystudio Media Production CMP 601-2, 2003

They also released a single in 1969 on Admiral, AD 1136: "I Got No Time", coupled with "Searching For A Place To Hide".

This release marked the start of Curt Cress' long and impressive career. He was then only 17 years old, and still studying the art of percussion, when the Orange Peel album was recorded late in 1969 at the Dierks studio (actually one of the first Dierks productions I know about!) The result was a vintage blend of progressive music, comparable to Tomorrow's Gift (1st album) or Nosferatu. The four mainly instrumental tracks sounded somewhat unfinished. Orange Peel disbanded in 1970. Bassist Helm Mohn replaced Michael Ertl in Epsilon in time for their second album, "Move On" (1971), while Curt Cress went on to Emergency, Passport, Atlantis and several other bands. Gradually he built up his reputation as one of Germany's finest session drummers. If you have a special interest in Orange Peel as a document of early German progressive rock you must he prepared to pay at least 150 DEM for the original LP.
