You can select multiple bands.

Pick those you don't know.

Maybe you've heard of, but never heard?

Maybe sound interesting?

Let's get some discussion going. Maybe learn something?

Maybe get some samples to start developing a wider audience?

I think Proto-Kaw was fronted by Kerry Livgren (of Kansas), before Kansas ever existed. Proto-Kaw disbanded and then Livgren joined up with Phil Eaheart and his posse and Kansas was formed.

Birdsongs of the Mesozoic is pretty crazy stuff.  They were actually formed by members of punk band Mission of Burma, although their definitive lineup features neither of said members.

I have only heard A. Holdsworth, Echolyn, Djam Karet, Birdsongs and Kraan. The rest are totally unknown to me. I can't select multiple votes!

I recognise some of those names but ive not actually heard of any music from any of those bands.

Ive been meaning to check out Parallel or 90 degrees after seeing Andy Tillson last year perform with The Tangent.

Don't hate me

You wont be able to. No one has that amount of spare time, if they're honest. If you ever meet anyone who has heard 'all the prog' slap them hard and tell them to get a girlfriend.

I heard the names of ALL the bands somewhere & somehow but I actually listened to songs of about 2/3 of the mentioned bands...further on, I own albums of about 1/4 of the mentioned bands...

Danbo mentioned some very interesting but unfortunately very unknown bands. I'd like to encourage you to check out KRAAN, Frogg Cafe, Discipline, Shaun Guerin and Boud Deun

Now there is a term that needs to be defined: Proper Prog?

Okay, Let's start by posting some learning material.

This is Ozone Quartet, a four piece East Coast American band consisting of Drums, Chapman Stick, Violin and Guitar. They have a bit of King Crimson and Mahavishnu Orchestra in their sound, by also a unique classical sense and offer a tone more subdued than KC or MO. Broquen.

Allan Holdsworth doesn't have a musical TV show, in which he presents some obscure (for the vast majority, i.e., me) artists? I see it at Film & Arts.

Please forgive me for my crappy english!

Two votes for A. Holdsworth!! C'mon!! You haven't lived until you've heard Allan Holdsworth. Mr. Legato. It is a CRIME to know any of those listed before you know of Allan Holdsworth's work.

I think there are many people who are new to prog...I don't think that Holdsworth's (solo) stuff is something you get to know very early...Undless we're talking about all the albums he plays on

I think, if only by chance, you would find out about Holdsworth before you found out about some of the other groups in the poll! Most of these are very esoteric and would not be seen by just browsing through Best Buy or Circuit City CD sections.
