I am wondering if anyone else is interested in the writers of the music. I for one would like to include information on the musicians who wrote each song. After all the time of the song is included...

e.g.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Studio Album, released in 1970

Track Listings

Line-up/Musicians

Writers
All songs by Ian Anderson

Releases information

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Or, this would not have to be a separate section, the names could be included under track listings.

e.g.

Track Listings

1. Peace - A beginning (0:49)  [Fripp]

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Of course, the downside to this is an increase in the time to enter a new CD.

What do you think?

Oh, God, what an immense re-work that would be. Pinch

Usually, on some cases and some collaborations, it would be ideal to state who composed what song.
Generally, though, why wouldn't it be better for us to state who's the composer, songwriter, lyricist (etc.) up in the musicians's section of an album? Big%20smile

I guess this is the problem when something becomes really popular. It can lead to stagnation because things seem too hard to change. On the one hand it is fantastic that progarchives has grown to such a huge size, yet this can make re-working's of databases seem immense... Not all items have times next to each track, although that would be better, so not all cds would have songwriter's either.

Problem with this is that not all songs have the same lyricist.

Or it could be....

In Musician's section put track numbers that they had a hand in composing next to their names.

It's probably a "nice to have".  The problem with doing so now is the enormous amount of work there would be in updating the thousands of albums already on the site.

I think if we were to do it at all, we should not make a half hearted effort, it should be all or none. I don't think we would find the volunteer resources for the "all" option.

The Discography Editions team is working hard to make sure discographies are made complete in terms of track titles, track times, line up and release information like record company and product id. That's been underway for just under a year now  and it will continue for a while. Imagine the amount of time it would take to start adding these fields.... poor guys Ouch

Why all or none?
Surely it's absolutely impossible to make such work at once.

Let's change the rules of adding albums for example in the following way:
"Track listing
1. Track title (authors*) (3:04)
2. Track title (authors*) (9:07)
Total Time 78:12
* - optionally, if music and lyrics are wriiten by different authors: (composer  - lyricist)".

And of course, if all songs are written by the same author(s), no need to mention them everytime - it's enough to write their names below the track list.

Thus we'll have at least part of newly added albums with authors. Let both old and new form co-exist, I see no problem here.

^ Agree. Of course, it is impossible to update all the albums with songwriters at once and the fine people who work on keeping the archives going are not the ones to do this. The people who enter the CDs (and I have done some) are the ones to enter this info.
