It would be cool if we implemented something like a short list of 3 or so similar bands on a band's page. It would help with discovering similar, lesser-known artists. Even though we have subgenres, there's a lot of variety within them, usually. For example, in Neo-Prog, Solstice is very different from Aragon which is very different from Pendragon which is very different from Moongarden.

I agree.

This is especially helpful in bigger genres like the Art Rock-offshoots, Symph and Prog-Metal. It would be much easier to find stuff you're especially looking for at the moment!

Can the links transcend genres?

For example, there's a post-rock band called Tuna Laguna that's quite similar in sound to a jazz rock band called Jaga Jazzist. I wouldn't mind recommending a jazz rock band to a post-rock fan if they're looking for a similar sounding band.

I like the idea and I wouldn't mind implementing it to all of the bands I know of. Smile

I actually have a series of books on various musical genres which uses the same format. For each of the 100 albums the authors consider essential for the genre, there are another three recommendations of bands/artists in the same musical vein. I've always liked the idea and found it useful, therefore I think it could be a very positive thing here.

Well, its easy enough to do by just inserting some HTML. But we need to be sure what we want to do and the format it should take etc. Seems like a good idea, but it would, of course, be one more thing for people to argue and complain about .... !
